I want to customize a Dell Inspiron 6400 or E1505 for college, so I don't exactly need a laptop until May or June. However, I just got into this Dell coupon business and I don't know when Dell gives out the biggest discounts. I'm attracted to buying one now with the $300 off coupon and the 5% EPP coupon on top of that, which gives me basically a 25% discount... My customized computer is $1500 regular price and comes to around $1140 after discounts. When is the best time in the year before June to buy a Dell laptop? When do they give the biggest discounts? What is the usual discount and is this $300 off or 20% off nothing special for a Dell discount? Thanks.

When component prices are low. Can happen anytime, and can end very fast. The best place to find good prices year round is at the Dell Outlet store. Best advice I can give is don't skimp on the warranty coverage. Dell's are good computers, but they tend to die right after the warranty runs out.

If you dont want one right away then wait. You can always get a better deal later. Besides there is a new Intel mobile platform coming up somewhere around April (Centrino PRO : Code named Santa Rosa); which will bring out a whole new series of notebooks perhaps with DirectX 10 cards etc.. So if you are not in a hurry till May/June then wait for it.

Will it be overly expensive by June? Im looking to spend no more than $1200 on a laptop.

Well usually as soon as a new technology comes out it will be expensive. However I have noticed that with DELL, you can get a good price even for the latest stuff.
If you feel Centrino Pro is too expensive, then you can always get the previous generation Centrino Duo for a much lesser price than today; cos the current Core 2 Duo prices will drop like a rock when the next generation dual core Merom processor hits the market.
When's the best time in the year to buy a Dell?
