How is that Dell or any of its employees have not leaked out any info. The government can learn a thing or two about keeping the lid on info.

Seriously, I'm sure there's a manufacturing plant here in the U.S. with someone that can provide any insight.

Isn't there anyone in Austin that knows a friend that works for Dell that can provide some valuable insight.

Every article pertaining to these delays quote the same garbage spewed on Dell's Direct2Dell blog site.

I know this story probably doesnt warrant a much deeper investigation to most journalists, but can we at least get one Technology based news source try to get the real answer.

Honestly, I just would want a little insight, hell...I'd feel better if someone from Dell's factory just said it was the paint problems. I'd find that more credible and reassuring then anything some corporate blog spewed out.

So here's to the Notebook Review Dell Employee Scavenger Hunt.
Find a source and report back your findings. Rep points will be issued out. Bribe your mother's friend in Texas who lives near someone who is related to a factory worker...whatever; just make it happen.

Bonus points to whoever pulls off a cam shot from inside a factory.

My moms auntys brothers cousins sons wifes husbands boyfriends old roommate took this picture of inside the dell factory:

As you can clearly see, theres nothing there. Dell has no computers to ship out or equipment to manufacture them, and thats where the problem lies.

It's because there are no employees, why do you think we're not getting our laptops?

What the hell!? They use actual PEOPLE to make computers?!? I thought it would be 100% automated like in a car factory. No wonder theres delays, lazyass workers! They should hire some motivational people to walk about and yell motivational things at them so they make things faster.

Not tasteful or politically correct. But given all the trouble we've all had with these orders, my nomination for funniest post of the week. :p I almost peed my pants.

With respect to inside information...Ask away. I have reported everything that has been given to me since day on and it has been shown as 100 percent accurate. Further to that, my concessions and the speed in which all of my notebooks and monitor has arrived also shows that I do indeed have that contact.

I have personally been able to assist two who both have their systems now, both of who were in canada and extreme cases.

With respect to delays, they are not being seen by Dell alone but are global in all Asian countries. You dont see them in other companies as of yet solely because most of their systems are already premade and just adjusted to your configuration, whereas Dell goes from the bottom up.

Because of this we are seeing, as I have reported mid-October and in one or two cases, November shiping dates. A good thing is, few orders are ever received that long after their original EDD, there is the exception though.

Most delays are specifically related to components used in the LCD/LED display but there are lead times on other things as well to include painted lids. Its all supply and demand to which demand as so much higher with all the newer lines of Dell.

If your system is cancelled, in most cases it is being done at the build table and their is something wrong with the order. It could be a simple as an identifying sku but, noone sees it necessarily after the cancellation. As a result of US fair competition law, they cannot just replace your order...they need your permission.

Well lets see...I stated that I was informed that there is a global shortage of LCD/LED components being suffered by all...and that was correct.

And i did state that new lead times would go into late October/November...and that was correct.

No need to draw swords with you Chuck...But if you wish...

total bs if you ask me.. they should have dealt with the direct orders first then taken care of the retail end since the direct orders are what got dell where they are today... just my opinion
