I know D630s with Penryns have been reviewed. But does anybody know when they will be out for the consumer? I've heard in late January. I'm sure the XPS line will be upgraded and am waiting until then to make my purchase.
-
Is it possible to upgrade our existing whining santa rosa in our M1330 to penryn if we are willing to pay more $$?
-
I think so, If you're willing to open up your 1330 and mess with it.
-
I don't know. Is it too late to return it? I would get the Penryn if you can, as the battery life and performance will offer a significant improvement (measured at 16% and 40% increase over current core 2 duos in one test I read about, respectively) over what exists now.
-
I would also like to know the answer to that question
I bet you a lot of people are contemplating whether to purchase an XPS notebook now with the current discounts or later with penryn before the discounts expire. I know I am.
-
I spoke with a CSR and he told me that if penryns become available within your build period of your notebook they would upgrade your processor for the upgrade amount. So best bet is to upgrade a day before the discounts expire, but I think the current deals are just too good to pass up if your looking for a new notebook.
-
All penryns have been delayed by intel so I wouldn't hold your breath if you want your pernryn dell by the end of the month.
-
I fully agree. But at the same time, a few weeks is not long and well worth the wait, if possible, for a chip that runs cooler, has more power, better batt performance, etc.
-
That's not entirely true, there are several penryn processors available very soon. It's mainly the quad cores that are delayed.
-
Where did you read that specifically? Most of the reviews I've read so far have indicated generally a 5-10% performance increase and a 5-10% improvement in battery life in most cases. I think the only thing I saw with 40% increase was in SSE4 performance, which would be a bit more specialized and depend on the application supporting it or not.
-
I think you got it the wrong way round mate! Its a 10 - 20% performance increase! Not 40%....
Where are the Penryns?
