Oh crap. You didn't get the memo? YOU are the one who's supposed to get this laptop and review it.

Damn it. I told you to clean up your desk. Now hurry up. Chop chop. We're not paying you nothing for nothing now.

In all seriousness this new vostro 1510 is going to BLOW AWAY the current JUNK 1500 model. The current 1500 model is a laughable BULKY, plain, heavy THICK unit. It is the BULKIEST laptop on the market today. I dont know what Dell was thinking when they chose this current 1500 model to sell (Dell actually does not desgin or make laptops 3rd party Mfr do).

What we need now is someone to buy this new model and review it NOW, not tommorrow.

You must exist in a different dimension than I do.

Here, at Earth 1, the Dell Vostro 1500 has been, and still is, the cheapest laptop you can get with an 8600m GT. It is a very reliable laptop, especially given its pricepoint. Yes, it is quite large, but 8600m GT. I mean seriously - 8600m GT for $600.

The 1500 is a solid laptop. It is a little fatter than the others, but what it offers in price and performance makes up for that. Add to it that its battery life for a 15" laptop AND it runs incredibly cool. All thinner laptops i have used run much hotter than the 1500. I'm not doubting the 1510 is a great machine also, but it on a different level as it offers different specs for a different market.

A little fatter??? Its the fattest laptop that has come out in YEARS. We are not in the pentium4 laptop days where you needed huge CPU heatsinks to cool what intel claimed to be "mobile Pentium4" and HUGE batteries to power them. Those days are long over (thankfully) and its a joke to try to sell such a HUGE bulky laptop in these days IMO.

No, Slim laptops simply do NOT run hot as you claim. I own an IBM T61 with 2.4ghz C2D and its super slim and runs cool and quiet. No reason to design such a stupid bulky laptop, regardless if it has a 8600gt chip.

I agree that the Vostro 1510 is better in all aspects :D :D (Simply biased :p )

But still, the Vostro 1500 has been one of the best deals recently.

    Dell Vostro 1500: 14.12" x 10.59" x 1.65" (Width x Depth x Height)
    Toshiba Satellite A210: 14.3” x 10.5” x 1.32-1.55” (without feet)
    HP Pavilion dv6700t: Dimensions (with 12-cell battery, including feet): 14.1" (L) x 10.1" (W) x 0.75" (min H)/2.0" (max H)

    T61P Dimensions: (WxDxH): 14.1" x 10.0" x 1.2–1.4"

    Vostro 1510 Dimensions: 14.6" x 10.16" x 1"

Not that much difference between the 1510 and 1500 --> 1/2" -big deal

Not as many choices on the video card either. Case construction not as solid on the 1510 as on the 1500.

Lithus, You clearly have not actually seen these laptops you state in person. The Vostro 1500 is by far the bulkiest laptop that has come out in YEARS.

The dv6700t is 2" because you posted a model that comes with the MASSIVE 12 cell battery which sticks out from under the bottom making it 2" just in the battery area. That HP is actually on the slimmer side of laptops. Oh how much more knowledge I have.....its amazing.

SIGH.... You are talking about the 15.4" model. I have the 14.1" model which is 1" thick and runs cool even with a 2.4ghz c2d.

Besides, even the 15.4" is a HUGE diff. No it does not sound like much but when you place them side by side its SHOCKING. Like I said, most people here have no idea as they have never even touch various models.

Be happy with the one that you buy.

I am very happy with the 1500 and I have compared it to the 1510. I did not like the construction on it at all. It feels cheap-the case flexes.

My other choice would have been the T61P.

I have handled many different laptops and thin may be in, but it is not everything.

The NBR review for the Vostro 1310 confirms that. Also the review for the 1310 said it has a mono speaker. :p

I personally love the look and feel of the Vostro 1500 and 1700 and I own both. I don't view the Vostro 1500 as bulky. To me it feels strong and sturdy. The only other laptop i'm really looking forward to are the E-Series Latitudes.

LOL you don't have to bash the 1500 so badly if you really just want to find a 1510 review :p

There's been no review of it yet because it's quite a new model and, unlike the XPS which is a consumer laptop [and a popular one at that], it is a business laptop. In addition, it does not have the appeal of the original Vostro [or even the XPS M1530 for that matter] -- that is, the 1510 does not have the amazing price-performance ratio that the 1500 did. Having a not-so-gaming-ready GPU doesn't help.

So yeah, no official review yet [although 1310 has been reviewed] and no forum user reviews yet, either. It hasn't quite caught on yet with the [GPU-focused] NBR community :p Hopefully, a review comes out soon.

and you believe the 1310 and 1510 are the same laptops....now THATS funny and a bit sad.

Secondly, Who the heck play video games on thier laptop? The mobile 8600gt is a WEAK card to begin with. Why bother...games are for desktops.

Actually its not known as a weak card (maybe in n00b land as you are ranting on like a child and your status says newbie somthing is fishy) it is known as a med-range gaming card and is great value for the buck.

Actually if you look at most of dells line the 1500 was very very similar to the 1400 and was all but identical to the 1700 minus differences in size. The xps 1530 is just a larger 1330. The 1730 is a different story. Next time look at the pics the Vostro 1510 looks like a inflated 1310 and having seen and tried one here in Japan the thing was very similar to the 1310 review. The guy who actually let me try it ( some stranger student at my uni) said he was returning it since he couldnt stand the thing.

Grimster, you are so wrong. Look up the Inspiron 9100. It came out in 2004, which is in the last "few years" and is pretty much a brick. I would know because I own one.

YES. The 1500 is that same size as those 9100 model! Thank you for agreeing with me. Its like Dell decided to go back to the pentium 4 laptop design days for some strange reason. Its simply a HUGE bulky laptop and there is no reason for its massive size due to much cooler running components and more compact batteries today compared to the dark days of Pentium 4s in laptops.

If anyone cares, the service manual of the 1510 only show that it has one pci-e slot and it is already been occupied by the wlan card. The 1500 has 3 pci-e slots. So you are really paying more for less.

To begin with ..i am sure the reviews are on ... well i wish i had a option for 1500 with 8600 Gt :( but its way over here in India .. and i ordered a Vostro 1510 ..with 8400Gt , i know its not a gaming card but that's the best for my budget ..i Choose Core 2 duo 2 Ghz 800MHz , 3GB of Ram , Screen 1440x900 Wireless N , 360 Bluetooth , Rest is blah blah ..we all know .. err yeah 320 GB HDD .. somehow people suggested me for Studio 15 but i wanted something without Os and Good Chassis .. i don't know why people so worried for flex part and think it don't have good build .. b that 1500/1510 both is a business model and made to perform in all conditions ..maybe 8600 GT and Maybe HDMI port rest is same in terms of Vostro 1500 /1510 .. which also depends upon the final price how much upgrade one wants to do .. and trust me i have seen people playing Crysis and COD4 in 8400 Gt with OC and without OC as well .. and its even better then Studio ATI HD 3540 which Studio 15 has with option ( in terms of game play and overall features vs 8400 ) with no offense intended ..i think nothing is THE BEST in world ..in getting everything u end up paying so more then its actually worth it .. just a thought :p ..
