I keep reading reviews of this laptop with Nvidia cards and now the only thing that is offered is the integrated Intel one with a link above saying if I want a Nvidia to get an XPS.
Whats the deal?
-
-
I guess they are trying to move the Inspirons to total Budget Systems.
-
They figured out that people were buying the Inspirons and configuring them with nearly the same specs as the XPS systems. They are forcing you to trade up if you want the dedicated cards. Dell is trying to differentiate their lines and push sales of the higher priced units.
-
Thats the only thing missing from the 1520 that I would want and the price of a XPS with almost identical hardware is a whole lot more. How well does the Intel X3100 work? Anyone have any idea how it would compare to a Nvidia 7900 GS?
-
No comparison. The 7900 gs is on an entirely different plane than the X3100. It blows it out of the water.
-
Would my 7900 GS fit in a Inspiron 1520?
-
Yeah, it'd be like racing a Geo Metro and a jet airplane. The 7900GS is a good card. The x3100 is fine if you just surf the web and do very basic photoediting and very old games.
-
And no, it won't. -
You can't upgrade the X3100 chip, and no card that powerful would ever fit in that thin 15.4" frame.
-
Ya the 7900GS is currently in my E1705 that has a broken LCD, battery, and AC adapter so I am trying to decide which laptop to buy to replace it instead of replacing parts which would cost ~$400
-
Did you try eBay for a new LCD, battery, and power adapter?
Where did the Nvidia option go for the Inspiron 1520?
