Where does Dell ship from?

hello!

My new (and first) laptop (1505) shipped today per dell, but they dont have the tracking number up yet.

It's going to be my micro gaming rig for all things HL2 and older. Had to be thrifty with my purchase so it's no beast.

Where do dell laptops ship from? I am in Tulsa OK right now, and would be ecstatic if you told be they shipped from Austin.

i hope they ship from austin too that means my e1705 will get here sooner

 

They are assembled in and ship from Malaysia via a Jumbo jet, the laptops arrive in Memphis Tennessee and that's where they go from to your house. Not Austin.

i'm sure they're at the least shipped from somewhere nearby or a suburb of austin if not austin, itself.

Really? When I ordered my e1705, the ups tracking showed the origin as a place up near Reno, NV. So does this mean my laptop arrived from Malaysia right into Nevada and then shipped to my home, or did it have to go through the Memphis plant first?

 

I live in the upper midwest, and mine first scanned on UPS from Hodgkins, IL (near Chicago).

So it seems they might fly these in to multiple cities.

Mine shown up on the tracking site from Reno also, but from the box, it was made in Malaysia.

 

All dell notebooks are manufactured in malaysia. As stated they arrive in the states via plane. I think it says the origin is in the U.S. because the plane drops it off there. So since it starts in the ups system where ever dell drops it off, it will say that is the origin city. The difference in cities im assuming is because of the customers location.

Obviously they are made in malaysia for a variety of reasons, I would say cheap labor has something to do with it.

 

I ordered from Dell Canada since I reside in Toronto. However, I was under the impression that my notebook would be built and shipped from Toronto since the Dell Canada HQ is in Toronto. I didn't pay for shipping but am I responsible for the customs/brokerage fees?

Any help would be appreciated.

No you are not responsible. Dell takes care of any brokerage/customs fees. If they made the customer pay for it, then they would know they are made in malaysia. I think dell tries to keep the fact that they build it in asia somewhat a secret to most customers.

 

so the factory in the 'Purely You' commercials showing American workers is just a cover up?

 

Thats funny you bring that up, I was going to put that in my previous post but I forgot.

Yes the commerical could not be farther from the truth, the factory is not made up of american workers. Im sure there are some who manage the facility (not sure though) but almost all the workers are malaysian. Incredibly funny.

So it is a big coverup. Im not saying they go to extreme lengths to hide it but they definetly want to keep it on the dl.

 

Dell says its purely built for you.I does not say, its built in the US.
All dell are built in Malaysia and then shipped all over. Many reasons may be, cheaper technical staff. I dont understand why you are feeling dell wants to hide the fact.The box will clearly state it as 'made in malaysia'.Beleive me, the products built in asia are of the best standards.Maybe china produces some vary products, but hey, they charge you as per it.cant understand why many are skeptic about it.

Yes but I would appreciate the commercial representing the truth- showing all the workers being malaysian. If they are not trying to hide it then why is their commerical without all malaysian workers? Im not saying their products are bad either.

However, I do understand other companies do this as well.

I actually liked the commericals with the college guy and the others where the husband calls dell asking them if they are open that day.

 

My tracking number and Invoice stated built and shipped from Nashville, TN. I have the 1505. A good friend got a 1405 and it, too, was built and shipped from Nashville.

 

Its shipped from TN because dell flies in the systems there. So UPS doesnt get the package until upon arriving in TN. As a result, they say that the origin was TN because thats where they initially received the package. All Dell notebooks are built in malaysia.
