On my hard drive, it shows C:19.5GB, of which 11.5GB is free (so 8GB Occupied)

    Now C: contains:
    windows: 2.12GB
    Program files: 0.94GB
    i386: 1.14GB
    Documents & settings: 0.3GB
    dell+drivers: 0.03GB

    This adds up to ~4.6GB
Where the hell is the other 3.4GB ??????

yeah, I just got my e1405 with 120gb hard drive. I know the whole 1000 bytes = 1024 bytes thing but the 120 gb drive on my desktop shows up as 111 gb, guess what the drive shows up as on my dell? -- 105 gb. I guess its part of the system restore or some other partition that they didn't tell me about. --- Im going to do a reformat (which is recommended anyway) in a little bit once I get over the excitement of my new laptop.

Page file if left to windows to control is a good gig and a half right there. System restore also takes a couple of gigs by itself, so u can see where 4 gigs of space are gone.

Also, if you use hibernate, it will subtract however much RAM you have. Plus, the Dell utility partition takes ~40 or 50 MB but it won't show up.

The Key point is the that its a restore partition , it should be seperate from C:
I believe I did delete the restore partition when I installed linux (~4GB) - it was a seperate partition.
My question is wrt to the C: partition - where is the missing 3.4GB ? Pagefile will take what, 2 GB ? That still leaves 1.4 GB missing.
