I just did a fresh install of XP and planned on simply installing all my drivers from the Dell driver CD that came with my I6000 or updating from their website. I ran the driver CD and it offered several drivers (that were checked off) for my system. But, several were missing. One was the display device driver. So, I went to Dell's support page and entered my service tag. Under the list of display device drivers are about 15 different items, none of which say anything meaningful in the description to help someone differentiate one from the other. I currently have a display option in my control panel, so do I really need the Dell display driver? Given the myriad choices in the device display driver list, which one should be used for the I6000?

The other weird thing I noticed is that my I6000, fresh out of the box, was not capable of displaying it's max resolution... in the display control panel, the absolute max resolution was not as high as I know the WSXGA screen can display. Since doing a complete reinstall from XP cd, now I get a higher resolution by default. Why was the max resolution not available in my native I6000?

Thanks for any feedback on these issues.

The display device list drivers for external monitors that are sold by Dell, so unless you have an external monitor, you can ignore that category.

My guess is that Dell didn't install the video card driver or it wasn't working properly when you first got it. When you ran the cd, it probably installed the driver and giving you the proper resolution.

    Hope this helps,
    SG

Ah, that makes sense  Thanks for the reply. Yes, something wasn't right with my display... it's amazing the resolution difference.
