This isnt the bad loud one is it?
-
I assume that SNO stands for Sony Nec OptiArc, the loud one. Try to get it replaced!
-
Ahh ****, im not a stickler when it comes to noises though
Anyone seen a youtube video or the something of the such documenting the sound? -
No, I've just heard reports that Optiarcs are loud. As you can see in my sig, I changed to the "dark side of the force." lol.
-
Yeah, you know it has a CLUNK to it. It doesn't particularly bother me, but I can see where it might bother someone. It only does this when actually loading or ejecting a disk (or mine does anyway), it's not particularly loud in general operation. If it's something that annoys you, I imagine Dell will swap that out. It's not worth it to me to have some meat-fisted tech rip apart my otherwise perfect XPS. Maybe later on after I've abused it enough myself I'll call and complain about it.
As always, YMMV. -
Yeah. I have the Optiarc, and it's considerably noisy when loading and ejecting. However, I've never had a read/write error with it. If I ever do, though, I have a special case number where I can get the Panasonic drive. Dell was pretty lenient with getting me a new Optical drive if I wanted one. I might eventually, but for now I can sacrifice some quiet for something that reads/writes silently and flawlessly.

I dont care about feed/poop sounds, aslong as it doesnt screem like a banshee when im installing WoW for an hour.
