Would you choose the faster hard drive potentially sacrificing battery life and smaller storage (20 GBs) or get the slower hard drive with more space?

Thats way too much for the 710m. I payed $940~ shipped for mine. 1.7ghz 512mb ram 60gb 5400 HDD. You must have missed the sale on the 710m.. people were getting them for $755 shipped. I would wait for another coupon to come out.. however long that may take  .

Agreed on the coupon. Also buy the memory elsewhere.

Another thing to consider is that the 710 is likely near end of life... its the last of the inspiron 500/600/700 series notebooks... and there are rumors circulating about an e1405 coming down the line. If you need a notebook now, and get a good deal like those above then its an option... but no way should you play over $1000 for one of these IMO.

How is this configuration? I do want a large HD, a 2 Ghz processor, the DVD burner, and the two 8 cell batteries : Each of these options add $100 for each increment.

I would get the least amount of memory you can then buy some after you get it.

How many years has the 700m been out now?? I can't believe Dell is still selling this notebook, and for one heck of a price!! No way would I get that, I would see the What Should I Buy thread and ask for some other options. There are quite a few excellent 12inch notebooks out there, and this sure isn't one of them.

If you insist on buying it though, I agree with waiting for a coupon. That is just too much to spend for such an old machine

Thanks for the input. I ordered the D620, in the last second.

With the amount of money that I had configured, I decided to get something with a little more durability and solid feel.

Had to pay $89.00 for shipping and $39.00 tax ( I live in Hawaii) ...

I ordered the z5500 from zipzoomfly and they charged me LESS to have it shipped.. thats Dell for you.
