This weekend I've purchased two XPS m1330s, one on the EPP special and one through the outlet. Maybe you guys can help me decide which to keep and which to cancel.

I currently use an XPS 140 with a Pentium M 1.73ghz with 50GB 7200rpm Hitachi drive. I mostly browse the internet with occassional music downloads. No gaming(since getting married). It's been getting painfully slow lately with only 512mb ram(WinXP). I did upgrade to 2GB, which helped, but am gonna give it to my wife to use so I can get a new laptop.

    1)Ordered from Dell EPP:
XPS M1330, T7500(2.2Ghz) Core 2 Duo, 3GB ram, LED LCD, 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS, 250GB 5400RPM SATA HARD DRIVE, Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini Card, 6 cell Li-ion battery, BT module, 4 Yr Ltd Warranty+$70 gift card
Added on a spare AC Adaptor, 9 cell Li-Ion, Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition in order to push up the price to qualify for an extra 4% discount and will try to resell those if possible

    Total price $1461 after tax

    2)Dell Outlet Refurb Unit:
XPS M133, T5250(1.5Ghz) Core 2 Duo, 1GB ram, LED LCD, integrated graphics, 120GB 5400 RPM HD, 1490 Wireless card, 6 cell battery

    Total price was $756.
If I kept this one, I would upgrade the ram to 3GB($40 at Newegg), swap the wireless card for an Intel 4965AGN wireless N card($40 on ebay). I do have a Dlink xtreme gigabit N router. Question whether the wireless N card would make web browsing/downloading any faster thru Road Runner cable modem.

So the big differences are the processor speed, RAM(which I will upgrade), HD space(only use 27/50gb on current XPS140), and of course the warranty(which I don't really need because I'll probably only keep 2yrs or so). I certainly don't need the extra HD space, might switch the 250gb to 160gb 7200rpm if I keep that one. Just not sure if I will need the T7500 processor.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

If it was me, it would depend on how long I was going to keep the laptop and what I was going to be using it for. However, something about re-furbish laptops turns me off........I'm biased though because i had bad expierences with Toshiba laptops that were re-furbs a few years ago

I would keep the new M1330 because it is new and not refurbished, but also you won't have to replace so many things.

Well, the warranty is 1 year on the refurb and I probably won't keep it more than a year or so after that. Again, using it mostly for web browsing, word, music d/l at home, rare travel but move the laptop frequently between living room and bedroom.

I would wait until you receive both of them and see which has the better build quality out of the two.

good point. Though it wasn't too hard to add ram to my current XPS(removed the keyboard even) and mini pci card should be just as easy. Thx for your recs.

I considered that. Kinda weary of the restocking fee though. Also for some reason the "ready to go" outlet xps is scheduled to ship at the same time as my build to order one(Feb 4th).

I've had bad experiences with refurbished Dell laptops... Never a problem with a brand new one though. With all the extras that you ordered with the new one; I think that it is worth the extra money
