I was on the train earlier today and I saw a woman with a Dell laptop.

It was a laptop I had never seen before ... definitely not one of their mainstream consumer laptops (probably business). It was pretty thin, but one of the more distinguishing features was that it had a barrel hinge with the power button on the side (much like the Sony Vaio SR series).

Does anyone know which laptop this was?

I wouldn't really consider any of the Studios "thin"...

Possibly you saw something old-school like an X1 or even a D430. Neither really has a barrel hinge, but the X1 does give the impression of having one.

Yeah the studio is not really thin.

How about the Inspiron 15z? I know it's think but does it have a barrel hinge?

Oh! Seems like Commander Wolf got it right on the nose. I am looking at the pictures of the Latitude X1 and it is the one I saw on the train. Do they not sell these anymore?

If you look at the review, it's dated for 2005. Dell stopped selling X1s, new or used, a long, long time ago. You can't even find 'em at DFS anymore. If you want an X1, your best bet is probably ebay. They should be pretty cheap, though.
