I am a frequent flier( with not too much muscle) looking for a portable laptop mainly for DVD watching, wireless internet, and music downloading. I am a fan of Dell........any suggestions? The Latitude D410 and X are out cause of external optical drives. The Latitude D610 seems ok as well as Inspiron 700m. :decision:

The Latitude will be a tad more expensive but will be built and overall better then the 700m.

    d610! :D

I would take the Latitude over the Inspiron. One that I would take a took at is the Fujitsu S series, either the s2110 with AMD Turion or s6240 with the Pentium M. Fujitsus are well built and have the best glossy screens in my opinion. They have 13.3" screens are both are lighter than either of the Dells. Good Luck.

In my opinion...None of the models above fit in the Ultra-portable!!!!...
I would go for the 700m (however it's a older model)...buy the 700m with the coupons....

Thanx for the advice, guys..........we don't have Dell coupons Down Under.........just checked out the Dell site for the Latitude D610 and all the choices for warranties, security, and so on!!!!?? Got a headache....is it better to pay for 3 to 5 years of warranty, insurance, etc? (I know i am very amateur in the cyber world)

Typically when some there is a hardware defect which is what the warranty covers it happens in the first year. If it makes it the first year it should go a few more. Not to say something can't happen after. If it gives peace of mind it may be worth it. Good Luck.

I wouldn't get either of the models you posted - the 700 and the 600m are both fairly ancient, and outdated.

D610 would get my vote, however the D410 is more of an ultraportable - get that if you can.
