The Latitude D630 has the Quadro NVS 135M. The D830 has the NVS 135M or 140M.

What are the GeForce equivalents? Both are modified GeForce Go 8400s, but which one exactly?

A quick review of the 8400 units:

    8400 G: 400/1200MHz, 8 stream processors, 64-bit mem interface, 128 or 256MB
    8400 GS: 400/1200MHz, 16 stream processors, 64-bit mem interface, 128 or 256MB
    8400 GT: 450/1200MHz, 16 stream processors, 128-bit mem interface, 256 or 512MB

Can anyone with the D630 or D830 comment on what's being used? You can find out by installing one of the modified INF files from the drivers at www.laptopvideo2go.com.

    8400 GS = 135M/140M.

Check this page. There's no difference between the 135M/140M on this page; someone else said the 140Ms were higher clocked...?

140M uses active cooling 135M is passive cooling I believe.

At least, that's how it was with the 120M/110M.

I just wish Dell would put something better in the Latitudes, like Go 8600 or similar....gotta move up to the big 17" notebooks for that.

Actually, both the 135M and the 140M use active/passive cooling. They are literally identical according to the tech specs nVidia publishes. I find that kinda ridiculous, but whatever.

Um...why was everyone so sure then that the NVS 140M was an 8400M GT and the 135M was the 8400M GS?

This does seem ridiculous. Now I'm very uncertain about this. I was all set on the D830 because of the supposed 8400M GT equivalent of the NVS 140M, but now it looks like there's no difference. How does Dell justify the $60 price difference? Simply because of the 128MB?

    I believe so.

The NVS 140M is not an 8400GT...the GT has the 128-bit memory bus, the NVS 140M does not.

The NVS 140M is most definitely not the 8400 GT.

Straight off these two pages ( quadros vs. 8400M series), you can see the differences.

For one thing, the NVS 140M has a 64-bit memory interface, while the 8400M GT has a 128-bit. Oh, it's been said above. If you don't trust me or thegrsguy, read the links. They're nVidia webpages.

oh, I do trust what you're saying and Nvidia's own pages. What bothers me though is Dell not including a more powerful card in the D830 and that there is essentially no difference between the NVS 135M and the 140M, yet $60 more for the latter.

Wonder why everyone was under the impression it would be the 8400M GT equivalent.

Oh and rep for bringing this info to light.

I actually asked the same question on this forum, and I got a somewhat ambiguous answer involving clock speeds and whatnot.

Tell you what: when I get my D630 with the 135M (in about a week), if you're still interested, I'll do some benchmarks/FPSs for you. I got a couple games like Half Life 2 and Oblivion.
    Thanks :)

$60 is for the upgrade from 128mb to 256mb, so there is a significant difference in the two cards, double the memory.

the 140m is definately not the GT, if anything a business class equivalent to the GS. I read somewhere that there are very minor tweaks between the consumer line and the business line.

Not necessarily; you would have to call the company selling the 140M and ask which it is. Again, if you look here you'll see that both the 135M and the 140M are available in 128/256 MB.

I know for sure the D630 comes with a 128MB NVS 135M. I believe the T61 comes with a 128MB NVS 140M, but I would call them and ask to be absolutely sure.

right, but im talking about in this specific situation from dell with these latitudes, the 140m is the 256mb variety, and the 135m is the 128mb variety. so essentially the difference in dell's offering of the two cards is the memory. i'm just saying that thats the main difference in this situation when you're buying a new latitude. the other differences in the cards are minimal.

Now that these notebooks have been out for a while, does anyone care to chime in with more details?

    I'm not really sure now....

What are we considering the Nvidia Quadro 135M? Are we sure it is at least the GF8XXX line?

I haven't gotten any games to try it out yet....I'm just a little frustrated about the lack of drivers right now. I'm sure it can put out more juice, but is maybe driver limited for the moment.

    Best,
    Ilham
