Just curious to see which processor options are most popular amongst the new Inspirons and XPS M1330.

My choice is in my signature. Not the most cost-efficient, I know, but the CPU has been my main bottleneck of late.

edit: Oops, forgot the "Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7700 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)" option on the e1720. If a mod could add that in, that'd be great. Thanks!

^Eh, the choices are the same, so it might as well include the XPS M1330. Opening post edited.

I basically got the 7300 processors because it was the next level up from the 2mb cache and level lower than the 7500 which the price did not justify...

I got the cheapest piece of crap they had! :) The 1.5Ghz. I kinda wish I dropped the $175 for the 2Ghz, but I really do not need it at all. So it was a good choice.

    What do you mean ?
There are many users who don't need that much processing power - merely browsing the internet, checking e-mail and doing WoW does not need a powerful CPU specially when the CPU is bottlenecked by other things - and many don't agree with the rather exponential increase of CPU prices for each 10% increase of power. I don't think that's a good thing to label that many users as "cool kids".

I'm surprised it's this many 2.0 GHz+ so far. But it's early on the poll, and this site does tend to have more high-end users than average. I expect it to level out a little bit later on.

And yeah, if you don't use CPU-intensive apps a lot, the lower-MHz processors are a better deal. For me it was a matter of two of my favorite programs being CPU bottlenecks, but other than that I wouldn't have gone above the T7300.

    Nice avatar, mujtaba.

PoW: D'oh! Forgot about that option when I made the poll. Opening post modified to include request for a moderator to add the option.

I doubt it.. The T7300 hits the Price/Performance sweet spot. Although the T7500 certainly sounds much better.. A nice, rounded number.

I'm an intense user. So I need all the power I can get. I edit and encode video.

'Nuff said. Lol. I am actually currently co-editing a Halo 2 "Dualtage" with a friend of mine.

Cool. I figured I wouldn't be buying a new laptop for at least 4+ more years so I would try and configure it the best I could. With that Dell $350 off coupon it actually wast so bad. I actually had ordered an HP DV9500t first, but changed my mind and sent it back because I don't think I would have been satisfied with the 8600M GS (Good card, but again I won't be upgrading for quite some time). As the HP was being shipped Dell released the 1520's and 1720's so I opted for one of those instead. With the coupon I ended up getting quite a better deal than the HP for only $100 dollars more.

Whoa big guy, it was a joke. Harmless ribbing. I would have said the same thing if i had gotten a T7100 or T7700 for that matter.

I got what i needed for me and i do acknowledge that the majority with T7100s and up dont need them.

T7500 since I had to add something else to hit $1399 for the -$350 coupon. Otherwise I would've gotten the 7300.

Always buy CPU's at the first one from the Top. Gives you the best bang for buck and longevity of product. When you buy cheap, you feel the heat (meaning lack of power ) sooner.

For the 1520 that meant the T7300.

Now on my I9300, I did buy cheap...but I always planned on replacing the CPU with a 1.6 - 1.8 P-M 400Mhz FSB CPU....with a tiny pin mod you get instant OC to 2.2Ghz+ depending on the CPU you use. (I9300 has 533 FSB..thats when the OC comes from) Not duo core power...but a good 30+% boost for real cheap now...lol.

The new CPU's are pinless....no easy mods!

About the difference between 2,0GHz and 2,2GHz.

If you upgrade up to 2,2GHz you will never regret that, but u could regret that u didnt upgrade when u had your chance.

T7100... After the +$75 and the tax that would be slapped onto the (total) price if I got the T7300, I would have gone over my $1,1XX budget. I don't ever recall a moment where I had to encode something or calculate pi at two million places, so I'm okay with my choice.
