I'm hoping someone here will know the exact answer to this.

Are there any WUXGA screens from other dell laptops that will fit the XPS M1530? I believe the screens used are the same as the Inspiron 1520 also.

I know these dell latops had a 15.4" WUXGA:
    8500/8600/D800/M60

They all use the same screen. Will they be compatible? Or are there even any other 15.4" WUXGA screens (from different laptops) that will fit the XPS?

I guess I'm looking for definite answers, the 1520 is probably a good laptop to compare to as not many people will have pulled their 1530 apart yet.

    Thanks in advance!
Basically, dell (the bad guys) aren't offering the WUXGA display in Australia, I'm absolutely wrapped in the 1530 otherwise - so I'm hoping I can take matters into my own hands here with a little help from the brilliant modders floating around here. :)

Well I may have answered my own question.
The 1530 and 1520 use the same panels as the D830.

D830 WUXGA screens are floating around and available for purchase. :)

I'd still love to hear more info if anyone has any, like if I'm actually right about this.... and how easy the swap will be, if it's going to be totally straightforward (and with no mods etc).

Also are there service manuals floating around for dell laptops like the 1530 does anyone know? I'm pretty capable with pulling laptops apart, but a manual would be nice before I rip open a shiny new one.

You may need to upgrade the LCD cables that connect to the screen on certain laptops. You can find all the service manuals on Dell.com.

I'm looking for a more concrete answer.

Basically I'm wondering if the plugs are the same on the 1520 and D830 (apparently compatible) as the 1530. I'm happy to re-solder plugs on if I have to (assuming they use the same amount of wires, same power, etc) but I'd rather not so that I can keep warranty in tact.

Also to confirm, the plug comes after the inverter right, so any screen will keep its own inverter?

Dude your wasting your time, Dell has always offered the WUXGA for the XPS 1530. I check the Dell website every day (I have mild OCD) and I know becuase I just checked to be sure - the option to upgrade the screen is there.

Check the website again, they definately offer the screen you want.

Edit: Yes I'm in Australia and checked the Australia Dell Site - its there

Be wary, the text is very small. A friend of mine shipped it back for the WSXGA+.
