Which notebook? If you mean the M1210, I ordered mine with the 9-cell. It protrudes about .75" from the back of the unit. I would prefer it to be flush, but battery life is more important to me. 60% is the difference between 2.5 and 4 hours...that's a big deal IMO.

The 9-cell battery does not stick out on my E1505. Though expensive it's nice to have...might make the difference between having to switch batteries between recharges and not having to switch.

    get the 9 cell

it will let your laptop live for up to 5 hours before it has to get a blood transfusion

    hahahaha

    like my medical analogy?

    9 cell anyday.

Mostly the reason I want to get a E1405...8 hour battery life; who cares if it protrudes? :)

    yes it's possible

    but i wouldn't recommend it

lithium battery life starts to shorten right after it's manufactured. also, the battery on ebay could include the faulty exploding battery.

in addition, all you have to go on are the seller's promise that it will last X amount of time.

so i recommend you buying off a reputable 3rd party site new, or ebay it new or just get it from dell

    I got my 9-cell upgrade for only 10€ (i saw 30€ on other days)... and with my 9400 / e1705 I get 2,5 - 3 - 4 hours of battery time :)
