    Hi,
i had a question here some days ago, about problems with video playing.
Today i know, where is a problem - incorrect codec packs. I`ve used a K-Lite Codecs, ffdshow and XP codec pack (XP codecs works, but not with streaming videos) and it doesnt work correctly.
So, please: Which codec packs do you recommended for me?
The second problem, which i have is HDD overheating. My hard drive has from 40 to 51 degrees. On the samsung homepage i found, that this type of HDD is optimized for maximum 55 degrees. Is it a good range, or i must to do something?
    THX

    My config: Dell Latitude D520
Intel Core Duo, 15" XGA, Intel 950 Graphics - shared, 60GB HDD Samsung,..

What's wrong with the codecs? Saying "they don't work" doesn't give us much to help you with... what format movies are you trying to play, and with what movie player?

And sorry, I don't know about the hard drives...

I second the recommendation to use CCCP codec package. It has worked very well for me.

Installing multiple codec packs over one another can lead to many problems. If you already have k-lite codec pack, then that should take care of all the popular codecs. What are the movie files / streaming media types you cant play ?

i thought K lite can pretty much handles everything now Unless the windows get messes up so it won't play or sound won't play correctly.

Try VLC videolan.org its pretty much a stand alone package that won't interfere with codecs. I prefer Klite the best.

Mostly i`ll tried to play the .avi format. I had installed the self package of codecs, so i don`t combined it with the other codec packs. It was played with Windows media player 11 and Windows Media Classic. I`ve never had this problem before...
The notebooks hardware is OK - tried and tested with Dell Diagnostics CD..

    THX for your answers

The main problem with k-lite that it has too much stuff in it, including a lot of unnecessary and possibly conflicting directshow filters (codecs). CCCP is very compact and designed so that nothing conflicts with anything else.

That being said, I've used both packs before, and either should be fine for playing back most videos.
