For me it will be the 1210 because it is easy to carru around and very powerful -
thank you for giving me more insight
That is a good reason, a very strong reason!!
ANy other takers on why you chose your answer? -
I have no idea.. I just like taking part in polls
makes me feel powerful -
XPS build quality should be much better as well. The 1210 was for a while the performance king for its notebook class, easily better value than the forgettable inspiron.
-
1420 will have slightly more gaming power and future proofness (DX10 card) along with the larger hd you included. Every other aspect makes the m1210 more favorable. Basically, if 12.1 inches is not too small for you than get the m1210.
-
okay... how about in relation to gaming and the two notebooks that I listed with the exact specs...THanks everyone for participating!!
-
Like derelict1987 said, the 1420 will be more "future proof" if your planning on playing games, because the 1420 has the 8400 which is capable of playing DirectX 10 games which are coming out soon. But as other people have posted, the XPS systems are much more stronger than the Inspirons. Do you plan on carrying this thing around a lot? If so, I'd go with the XPS. If not, go with the 1420.

oiy.
better at what?
by the way, the xps sticker doesn't actually increase performance, despite what anyone tells you. ("xps systems are much stronger than inspiron ones") -
Between those two, the M1210...but for the same price you could up the specs on the 1420 and get a better machine...
-
1.5ghz on 1420? I'd get the M1210 Gap cant be that big esp with that processor
-
thanks soo much. from all the polls and threads i've created I think my decision is becoming easier- to sway towards the m1210.
thanks everyone! -
p.s. m1210 is my choice, much better than the 1420 spec wise. -
Are they the same price though?
-
yes... my budget is under $1300. Therefore, they are both under $1300. The only way I can afford the XPS with the specs I mentioned is by getting it refurbished (from the outlet store)
-
The M1210 is a nice machine, but 12" screens just don't do it for me. I wouldn't want anything less than 14" really. So this is an easy choice... the 1420. But if you're ok with the 12" screen, then the M1210 is a nice machine. If you haven't used a 12" before, I suggest taking a look at one in the store to see if the screen works for you... it doesn't have to be the M1210 specifically.
-
for build quality i would go with m1210 and for latst technology such as SantaRosa i would go with 1420 cuz it supports 800MHz FSB .
both are easy to carry -
You know what... since we don't know much about your usage and preferences, we can't really tell you which is better. The answer is either one or something else, depending on your usage and preferences. Maybe you should fill out the FAQ from the What Should I Buy forum... and post there.
Anyway, for gaming, the 1420 is better, due to a newer and more powerful video card. For graphics work on the built-in LCD, the 1420 is better due to the larger screen. For portability, the M1210 is obviously better. For price, you should be able to get a better spec on the 1420 if you configure them to equal prices. For build quality... I don't know, I haven't actually seen the new Inspirons yet. -

I wouldn't buy the m1210, that's an older, outdated design now. Still very nice, but I'd go for the 1420. I like Dell's new design more and more.

Out of curiosity, why is the XPS higher voted? I think the 1420 is much better...
