Hi guys, I’m a university student and want to get a solid notebook for my remaining undergrad work into my grad work. I like what I see with the Vostro 1500 but I’m wondering what would be the best package to go with. I’m not going to be gaming, so it’s only going to really be for school and internet surfing. Any help is greatly appreciated.

inspiron 1520 and vostro 1500 are pretty much the same. I would go with the 1520.

I'd have to disagree with you, simply because the Vostro is not only cheaper, but has a classier all-black look, and has a sealed keyboard, being a business laptop. Other than that, yes they are the same.
If it's the colors you want, then go ahead and get the Inspiron, but if you would get black anyway, than go with the Vostro and save $100.

If you plan to do some gaming [not the latest games, though...], at least get it with a graphics card, preferably the 8600M GT. If it's purely for school work, the integrated graphics should be fine. It'd probably give you better battery life, too.

Try getting the least RAM possible [1GB, I think] then just buy and upgrade yourself. It's cheaper than buying RAM from Dell.

Fill out the FAQ to get better suggestions, though :D

You missed the most important part, your budget. Even if you are not gaming Vostro gives you a good graphics option at around 600$ which is pretty cheap.
