Most people tend to favor the 1400x900 resolution as optimal. But the 8600m-GT the best choice is 1280x800, since its under this resolution that most modern games can be played with high-mid settings, rather than mid or mid-low on higher resolutions.
Now, from 1400x900 you can always downscale to 1280x800.
The choice is yours. You may want to check the sticky section of the gaming forum, over there is a thread discussing all these different resolutions. -
Mine is 1280x800, and couldn't be happier.
The 8600m GT in the m1530 should be able to handle most of what you throw at it. Just look at the high 3d and PCmark scores! -
I would say 1680x1050 because I like having the extra real estate. You can play older games at native resolution and newer games anywhere from 1280x800 to native resolution. I find that scaling down to 1280x800 is barely any different than playing 1280x800 native.
The 8600m GT GDDR3 card is pretty powerful. Most things you'll be able to play at least at 1440x900. -
okay then going to get 1680x1050
one more thing i am not too sure about the 8600m gt come with a ddr3 or not! so if i ask my sale rep will he be able to tell me about it??? -
I agree have the high rez as well and I play at that ...but you could lower the rez in game settings etc....I guess it all boils down to preference...

If you do get the 1680 x 1050 resolution there's a 97% chance you're going to get the infamous Sec3550 grainy Samsung screen.
I would definitly go with the 1440 x 900. You have a much better chance of getting an LG (Good) Screen. -
I thought that the grainy screens are not common in the m1530's made in India are they ??? If they are the will no matter what not go with 1680x1050. Please someone from
India confirm!! -
I have no problems with the 1680x1050. I play TF2 and CSSource and HL2 @ native and it runs perfectly.

The XPS m1530 is GDDR3.
Where do you get that figure. I contend that is completely WRONG. When viewing forums online, you have to remember that people come MAINLY with problems. If you receive a product and it's exactly as you expected, nothing would compel you to search online for forums and post about it. However, if the product is deficient or if you think it has problems, then you're more compelled to complain about it or search for solutions.
Dell sells thousands of computers and if the majority of people who purchased their machines returned it because of a grainy screen, it would either be addressed by Dell or mainstream information (ie on news or something). Since it is neither, then the majority of screens shipped must be fine.
It's funny that you mention the SEC3350 screen as bad because that's the EXACT same model screen I have and it's completely perfect. No grain, no color issues, no viewing angle issues, nothing. -
The thing is most people don't realize their screen is grainy. If everyone who had a grainy screen realized it, there would have been a recall.
I don't doubt that your Samsung screen is perfect, but that one was obviously part of a different batch of screens. The WSXGA+ screens currently being shipped with the m1530 ARE grainy. Trust me, I have seen 4 different Samsung screens, they all look like ****.
Which is best??
