1280x800 or 1440x900 resolution would be good, anything over that, text might be too small to read. Really depends on you.

    You can't pick the brand.

Go to an electronics store and look at various laptop screens to figure out which resolution you like best. It's the best way for you to decide. Other people may have different eyesight or uses for the computer than you. You need to figure out what's best for you.

    That said, I recommend 1680x1050 :D

Me too. We've experimented with advising people on what screen to get, but I don't think anyone has come up with the perfect answer.

Basically what you get with a lower resolution is larger text, less text per page on screen, and less sharp images.

With higher resolution you get smaller text, more text on the screen/application area, and sharper display of images and movies.

It is a good idea to go into stores and do some reading on notebooks with different resolutions. The higher resolution, WSXGA may not be as easy to find.

In general, the higher the resolution, the higher the quality, and the greater cost. However, if the text is too small for you to read comfortably, there's no sense in spending the extra money, because your eyes can't tell the difference in quality, and you are going to be frustrated and get head aches trying to use a screen that displays text too small for you.

On the other hand, if you are comfortable with the smaller text sizes of higher resolution, getting the top resolution is one of the most valuable upgrades because you get sharper images, more text on the screen and more application area on the screen. For me, a lower resolution is out of the question.

In terms of brands, I feel pretty comfortable saying the LG brand is best to get. However there is absolutely no way to select this when ordering, and getting an LG to replace a Samsung or AUO screen is not guaranteed to be possible, and may in fact be impossible at any given time.

Well said. I wish more people would understand this concept.
