I have a $200 gift card for Dell and am planning on putting it towards a monitor to be used with my M1330. It'd be used mostly for web browsing, school work, watching videos, gaming if I can attach consoles to it, etc. I'd be willing to toss in an extra $100-$200 if the difference in quality is worth the additional cash.

I don't know much about this area of technology so I'm open to all suggestions. I was originally looking at 22 inchers, but there is also the Dell E248WFP for $379, which seems fairly inexpensive for 24 inches. Does anyone have any experience with this monitor? Is it worth it to get the bigger size/HD? Would anyone recommend one of the 22 inch monitors over this one?

Please keep in mind that it must be available on www.dell.com as I am using a Dell gift card.

    Thanks!

The Dell displays are nice, the E248WFP is a good display. Personally though, I find 24-inch displays just a little too big. For me, 22-inch displays are the perfect size.

You should also look into the SP series of Dell displays, they're glossy but also come with webcams and in my opinion have a nicer design. Check them out!

Over on slickdeals I saw a post for a 2408WFP (Higher end Dell 24") for around the $400 mark. If you can swing the extra, DO IT!

is the GC usable in dell outlet? i have a $70 GC, thinking of either spending it on a wireless router+BT mouse or a nice 19" LCD with my m1330..... still have ~4 weeks before the GC arrives, so stil thinking

The 24" is a much higher quality lcd panel. It is way worth the money.

24 inchs is rather large but you do get the boost in resolution to 1920 by 1200.
The 24 inch would be great for school as you would be able to put your word document on one half and your source (web page/pdf etc) on the other.

Heard good things about the E248WFP on these forums :)

Remember that the cheaper 24" and all 22" screens have 6-bit panels, though that's probably not that important, particularly for the kinds of usage described.

Its adequate for PS3 gaming as well. My friend has a Dell 22 incher, not the one I mentioned, but a little older, and it plays games beautifully.

I personally want to upgrade to a 24 inch from my 19 I have now. I want lots and lots of screen real estate.

Would my M1330 have any trouble with running the Dell E248? It has the GeForce 8400M GS video card.

The E248 is a TN 6-bit color panel. As far as I know, the 2408FPW is still a S-PVA/MVA, 8 bit color panel.

Yeah, Dell's lowerend LCDs are 6 bit panels, and their highend "Ultrasharp" displays feature top notch 8 bit panels.

I have a Dell Ultrasharp 2005FPW 20.1" LCD display. It has since been replaced by the 2007FPW and possibly there is a newer model then that now as well (2008FPW?). But mine is excellent. The color accuracy is top notch and uses an excellent LG.Phillips 8 bit LCD panel. It acctually has the exact same LCD panel inside as the Apple Cinema Display 20" that was out at the same time when I bought the 2005FPW. The Dell was however less then half the price and features DVI, VGA, Composite, S-Video, 4 USB ports, and one button to switch between sources. The Apple display costing more then twice the price with the same LCD panel inside featured only DVI.

I use my Dell 2005FPW for both my PC (DVI) and Xbox 360 (VGA). It is my primary gaming display and is also great for photoshop work that I do from time to time.

Would you recommend one of the smaller Dell Ultrasharps with higher quility panels? Or does the larger screen and HD resolution of the 248 more than make up for it if I'm not planning on doing graphics work that requires near-perfect color reproduction?
