Well my Fujitsu N3010, 2.66ghz, just gave up the gost after three years of faithful service and two tours to IRAQ. I'm intrested in another Dell, have 2 at work. XPS is too expensive and much more than I need. Looking to spend 1000-1500 after discount. Things making it difficult to pick is the vast availability of customized units directly thru Dell. For example a 1405 customized to the customer's specifications may be faster/better/ cheaper than the 1705. Which one should I pick based on what I need?
    LOOKING FOR FOLLOWING:
16-17" screen, WUXGA or WXGA?? (play both movies and game with a great screen)
Superior or upgradable video card to handle EA Need for speed (NFS) most wanted etc.
    7200RPM HD
    DVD-RW/ dual layer
That's about it, 90% of what I do is just surf the internet. Once in a blue moon play or burn movies/ play NFS. I'll never do CAD or anything requiring serious power. But I want solid powerful video/ memory that will keep up with the NFS game when needed.

    Your advice please.

The high-end I-E1705 (e-value code 6V620-E1705RFC1) has everything you want but the video, and they give you three upgrade choices. Keep an eye on Techbargains.com for Dell coupons. There's one there now but I tried it and it's not working (only good for first 400 customers).

Thank you for your service to our country! :)

I love my e1705 and with a good coupon you can really get it for a great price. It is great for games and surfing the internet.

Thanks to both. I'll keep an eye on the rebates and coupons. If you see a great one let me know via this thread. Our internet at sea is pathetically slow. I can't surf 90% of the time.

    Use a coupon

    JHWP?6BZH8DFFM

Config a E1705 for over $1999, and get $750 off with that coupon

The E1705 sounds like your best bet, but running NFS, is not demanding at all. A 7800 go card will run it perfectly
