i didn't exactly choose. i got ultimate coz that's what came with my G1. i would have been happy with home premium though. i hardly use all the features in ultimate.

I chose Home Premium because I couldn't seem to justify any reason to pay extra for features on Ultimate, that I would find useful.

In my opinion, the only worthy feature of Ultimate is the backup utility that is built in that can backup the entire OS and versions of files.

But you can do the same for about $50 with Acronis or Ghost, which does the same job. So if the Ultimate upgrade costs more than $50 over Home Premium, you should think twice.

    Where's the option for Business?

I felt it was a good middle ground between Home (Too little stuff) and Ultimate (Too much stuff). But I really don't think there's too much difference between the multiple versions...

business has the disk image backup feature that ultimate has, but it lacks a lot of the multimedia/entertainment value of premium and ultimate. business does not have media center, and the likes. personally, i'd go with home premium just because it is a good balance between what most consumers need and the features that some pros might appreciate as well.

For me the attraction of Ultimate is the multi-user interface packs - I think for many multi-lingual families that is probably very desireable.

    I didn't have a choice.

It was either premium or business (Why is business recommended on the 1520?), I chose premium anyway.

And when x64 drivers become good I am formatting and going there.

I got Premium. Ultimate just does not have enough extra to warrant the purchase price.

I got Ultimate because it was the only option available with the configuration I chose. Was actually cheaper than lower configurations with Home Premium + my upgrades.

Ultimate does not offer anything over home premium other than the ability to be added to a domain. Also, you can get winbeta's build and install 64 bit at your leisure.

it means you're getting vista business on an actual dvd. meaning you can reinstall it later. no media means you get no cd!
