    Hi,

What line of DELL notebooks is their top of the line?
I found the "Dell PrecisionTM M4400" and it looks really good as performance (price doesn't matter) but I also now Dell has the XPS line.

Should I go for the M4400 (full options) or I should wait for an update to the XPS 1530?

Also, is the DisplayPort on the M4400 compatible with HDMI/DVI (as my monitors do only have HDMI/DVI inputs)? Or maybe the docking station will have the HDMI port?

Overall, the laptop will only be used for office work with multiple monitor setup, no games whatsoever, but I still need a powerful laptop with a medium-strong video card in order to deliver fast operation on a 27-30" external display over different medium editing video/photo software.
Also, I would like to stick to the 15" range of laptops, nothing to big/heavy.

    Thanks guys!
I will do more research before buying something, but for now I did NOT find any full/decent review of the M4400.

if you want a 17"... either XPS or wait for the precision M6400... that's gonna be sweeet...

if you want a 15.4" the M4400 is looking mighty fine atm..

The m2010 is only a laptop in the loosest sense of the word.

If you are doing office work then I would stick with the Precision M4400.

    QFT!

seriously, the hotel i stayed in Korea had a 19" laptop to use for the guests... that thing is nice... but just because it folds, dont mean it's a laptop either...

    M4400 is a nice choice...

It has been discontinued. The hardware inside it was a little dated anyway!

i have the M2400, and use the DisplayPort-HDMI converter cable (part of the accessories when i configured the machine) to output to my sony LCD.

WORKS FANTASTICALLY ! 1920x1080 max resolution, and sound is output from the displayport as well.

i also have the standard E-Port docking station. There is a DVI connector there, but no HDMI connector.

you can find photos of the setup at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=287084&page=6

    sorry to step in.

Is the materials used andthe built quality of the XPS series as good as in the Precision series?

The Precision has a more solid build than the XPS and you can see that reflected in the price. However the XPS is still a very solid consumer notebook.

My vostro 1700 has a metal chassis, and a build quality that of a tank. For the SOHO budget model I got VERY good/strong build quality/Materials, 1920x1200 res and all the other things they have in high end models minus graphics cards. Sadly for those who buy high end the only thing that separates my $1k laptop from their $4k is a GPU.

Ok enough bragging about my machine. But yes the higher you go in the model line the more likely you are to find better materials for a stronger rig.
