    Hi,
I am planning to change my notebook and I am torn between Apple and a Dell. My budget is around RM.4000-5000 (equivalent of USD.1000-1400).
Actually I have a compac. I need most when traveling but use it daily home for email, word, excel, presentation, pictures, internet search.
I am not a pro but get around ! ;)
    Any suggestion?

You should ask yourself, do you want OS X or Windows?

It is also a question of Vista or XP. There are numerous comparisons on the internet so google will be helpful. For example, os x vs windows xp, and os x vs windows vista, will come up with many results. So, read up.

For what you are using the computer for, application compatibility probably won't be a problem.

If you are happy with Windows and play games a lot, or use lot of 3rd party tools and applications then you are better off with Windows. However if you buy a Macbook (Pro) then you can still install Windows along with OSX, but personally I wouldn't recommend buying a MAC primarily to run Windows. Macbooks are generally more expensive than a similarly configured PC notebook, therefore I dont see much of a point in getting one unless you want to use OSX or like the design (which I personally don't like :p ).

One thing I never seemed to understand.... Apparently Macbooks run c2d's these days and could therefore run OSX as well as vista.....

But how come it doesn't go the other way...... installing OSX on an inspiron or any other pc based computer is not possible???? don't they both use the same processor?

    dum question i know........

The problem is Apple is reluctant to offer OSX on computers other than their own. The Mac OS X install wont run unless its on a Macintosh computer. Not to mention the lack of OSX drivers for Dell or other PC manufacturers hardware.
