Dell E1505
About 4 Years Old
Ok, here's the story...
About 4 months ago there was about 1 ounce of DrPepper spilt on the upper right portion of the keyboard. Likely makes contact with the area of the motherboard that has the nic, sd slot and power plug.![]()
The screen starts to flicker, turns green, then white, and then eventually black. I turn the power off within 5 seconds of the spill.
I dissasembled the laptop entirely and cleaned each part throughly with contact cleaner, three times.
After reassembley, to my suprise the laptop boots and works like a champ....for about an hour.![]()
The laptop would simply shut off with no warning. It maintained this stubborn act as I tolerated it for about a month.
I decided to replace the adapter with a brand new Dell one to eliminate this as the problem. Negative....
The Problem:
Laptop will not show any signs of life with the cord plugged in.
The battery will charge.
The laptop will run for about 45 mins on battery before the life runs out.
If I attempt to plug the cord in while running on battery power, the laptop shuts off without warning.
As you can imagine, it's frustrating only being able to use the laptop for 45 mins at a time before having to close it and charge it for a few hours.
What do you guys think is bad?
Invertor? 2 PSUs? MB? Battery?![]()
Please help.

Maybe you should take it apart again.
Check for any shorts. Also check for bent pins. -
Yeah, i've taken it apart several times and spents hours inspecting each part. I found no bent pins...although, im not exactly an expert at noticing shorts.
Update, Actually it does show 'signs of life' when the cord is plugged in...I hit the power button and the three green lights (caps, scroll, num) come on for about 3 seconds but then go off again. -
