I decided not to mess around with replacements and asked Dell to arrange a collection/refund of my Vostro 1400. I then ordered a new Vostro 1400, with higher specs on March 21st, I figure it'll be better to start over. Checking today, the status has now jumped to preparation for delivery, which I find amazing
Anyway, my question is how can I find out which screen it has been built with? Looking through the forum, the recommended way is to log into your Dell account --- Support ---- My System & Peripherals.
For my 'old' dell the description is simply V1400 14.1" WXGA+ (1440 X 900) TRUELIFE
The new one is so new, that the service tag is not available to check online. However the packing slip is available, and that also states V1400 14.1" WXGA+ (1440 X 900) TRUELIFE.
It seems like a generic description, so no way to check the manufacturer? I’m in the UK, (if that makes any difference)

Ask for a copy of the invoice. There, at the bottom, you will find the service tag. Go back in your account at Systems & Peripherals and view your components based on your service tag.
-
But thats exactly what I did for my current Vostro 1400, it only lists
V1400 14.1" WXGA+ (1440 X 900) TRUELIFE.
Any other recommendations ? -
Add the service tag to your list of systems and then click on the service tag link on the left side of that machine's entry. It should pull up the actual parts list.
-
I will do that as soon as I can, i noticed it can take a day or so for the service tag to become active online. But I have been through the exact same process for the Vostro 1400 which I have ready for collection/refund (which was only delivered on March 22th). On that one the description was simply
V1400 14.1" WXGA+ (1440 X 900) TRUELIFE
Therefore I'm assuming it will be the same for this one. I know its dangerous to assume, but it seem reasonable. I'm hoping I will be able to check online tomorrow. What I was getting at, is if there is another method to check. -
That looks like it'd be something you'd see on the packing slip, which just gives the breakdown of what you ordered.
Once you get your service tag and look up your system configuration, you should get a build list...
Mine shows (albeit for an XPS m1330, but should be the same for the Vostro)
1 - UN864 - LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 13.3 WXGA, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF, LGP, V2
as my screen, and from that, it is an LG display. -
Mine's listed as...
1-RU671 BEZEL..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., PLASTIC..., W/CMRA, M1530
**UPDATE**
Scratch that, I looked further down and I'm getting the DW306 LG model! I'm so excited.
Which screen from Service Tag ?
