    Okay,
I have to order my laptop ASAP for college. The Vostro 1400 is by far the best bang for the buck, but i have heard all of this hoop-la about grainy screens, so which screen choice is the safest/best? XGA? XGA with truelife? or XGA+ with truelife.

    I really appreciate the help.

    Thanks.

I've heard on the forums that people have the most problems with XGA+ or higher screens (1440x900 or higher). I have a Inspiron 1520 with the XGA/1280x800 screen with truelife and its really nice. I don't see any graniness at all on it, or at least I don't notice it.

I was in the same situation as you and I sorta didn't want to sacrifice screen size, but so far it's been totally fine and I'm happy with it.

    Hope that helps. =/

I personally prefer a higher resolution screen, but it's really a personal preference. I've good and bad both about the screens. It's probably best to look for yourself. Nice thing about the 1400 is the 30 day no questions asked return policy.

Nope. That's what is good about Vostros.
