I am torn between two configurations of the Inspiron 710 and the Latitude 620. It's a matter of size/weight (710) versus power/screen resolution/durability (D620). I will be carrying this computer everywhere and plan to use it for 15 - 18 months.

I have the three configurations saved in my cart and will launch the order in the next day.

The Inspiron 6000 will go to my 5 year old; who is using it more than I am at the moment. aa;joiw ja'a'lsda'oweq (oops, there she goes again).

if I had not ordered an IBM T60, I would definately buy a Dell Latitude 620. It is very light weight. With charger, 6 cell battery, and DVD writer, it is around 5.6 lbs (2.5 kgs). Unless you are extremely weak, you can carry it all day long I beleive. It is also stylish and very durable with lots of extra features. I still can't understand myself, why did I go with the T60. Probably, just because it was IBM and the price was very good.

I almost bit the bullet and bought the T60, 2 Ghz Dual Core, 1 GB RAM, 100 GB HD with DVD burner but $700 can go towards something else, IMO. Thanks for the vote.

    Any others?

I wonder whether you know the difference between the 2623 and 2007 models. Similarly configured 2623 and 2007's have very different prices.

I don't know what the nuisances are between the models. I knew I wanted a Pentium duo 2 ghz with 1 GB RAM and a 100 GB HD with a DVD burner. I decided against the Lenovo because I never actually had my hands on one. My mother in law had the X series which I also like but without a built in Optical drive, I couldn't do it.

I have been fixated on a dual core after reading two articles from www.anandtech.com . In the end the D620 is my most likely choice. I can use the 6 cell daily and have the heavier 9 cell when I travel (can't wait to go to Lisbon in June :) ). Currently the D620s have $400 when priced over $1600.

I am leaning towards the 7200 RPM HD. As for RAM, I will just fill one memory slot and upgrade later through some 3rd party.

It is quite confusing when shopping for laptops when there are endless permutations and factors.

    Here's the final configuration:
    2 Ghz Duo Core
    1 GB RAM, 1 DIMM
    100 GB, 7200 RPM
    8X DVD +/- RW
Intel 3945 802.11 a/g Dual band Mini card
6 cell primary and 9 cell back up battery
    $1703

I finally submitted the order. Some things in my final 'Swing thoughts'.

More durable than the 710 m
Battery life indicator without having to turn it on
Light enough to carry everywhere with the power and screen resolution that I desire
More subdued styling when compared to the attention getting i6000 (lay low profile)

    Take care and thanks everyone.
