I'm about to get a new laptop since it has fairly good price now and I kinda need one since the one i have now is defective (so sorry guys I can’t wait for dx10 and all that to come out). But since the price dropped, I can add an additional upgrade, which one will be a better choice. The original specs was Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (4MB Cache/2.00GHz/667MHz FSB), 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, and 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS. Would it be better to push the cpu to 2.16 ghz, or 2 gig of ram but running at 533MHz.

I would say go with the processor mainly because you can upgrade the ram yourself and upgrading the processor down the line will void your warranty. But that is my opinion

Either processor will be more power than you need, so I'd suggest getting more memory. It might be cheaper to upgrade aftermarket though. Check out www.newegg.com

667MHz has a higher clock speed, but higher CAS latency. 533MHz RAM is a little slower, but has lower CAS latency. For this reason the difference between RAM is negligible.

Compsavy is right that upgrading your processor will void the warranty, however I don't think you'll ever have to. Upgrading memory on the e1705 is a cinch.

Do you guys know if i order the e1705 with 1 gig of ram, when i open it up, will there be an extra slot of an additional ram or i will have to buy 2 gigs of ram in the future if i wanted to upgrade. Because i think upgrading the cpu would be harder than upgrading the ram.

There will be 2 512 DIMMs if you don't order the single 1GB, if that is even an option. Usually I've found that that choice is only available on the business class machines.

So likely you'll have ot buy 2 gig sticks.

And you're 100% right, upgrading the processor is much harder than upping the RAM.

166 MHz is NOT going to make a difference.

you are correct vespoli. I would go with the RAM now that I think about it. Only because 166 MHz will not make a difference

ic, because I'm a gamer and the games i play, especially flight sims, are cpu intensive. The gpu is fine with the 7900, that was why my initial thought was to up the cpu to 2.16 ghz. But if ram is going to give me more fps then i guess i would go for that, agreed?

RAM will give you better performance in games, I think that we've already established that.
