Does a 2.0GHz be louder and get hotter than a 1.6GHz? Is 1.6GHz and 2Gb enough for XP and in the future Vista? No gaming? maybe a couple of movies.

If no gaming and just movies i would get the 2nd option.

I would go for the first one. Compared to the second option, 3GB of RAM really doesn't yield much benefit over 2GB, while the 8400M GS is a hefty upgrade over the integrated x3100 for $25 more.

I would get the first option. You can add 4GB of memory for $74 at newegg.com, also the price for that config sounds a little high IMO.

I just bought a similar configuration with a 1.4GHZ CPU, 160GB HDD, 8400m GS and a 9 cell battery for $479 at the Dell Outlet Store.

is the difference between a 2.0 and a 1.6 really noticeable? because there is a US$100 price difference.

Not really, not when it comes to daily tasks like words, and surfing the web. I know I told you to keep the higher CPU in the other thread, but that's because I thought it would be a better choice to spend it on the CPU instead of RAM, which can be picked up cheap like Rodknee recommended. You can of course further lower the cost by getting just the core 2 1.6 and it will perform just fine for your needs.

Actually, this prices are before taxes, and I have to buy a backpack also.
I can always buy more RAM change to Vista.

That's like a 25 dollar difference without taxes, I personally would take it because I want power :p , and I game on my machine, but for you, it is really up to you to decide whether you want the minor gain at a small cost. The only time you will notice the difference in performance if when you are doing some CPU intensive tasks such as video encoding, compiling scripts or video gaming.

EDIT: of yeah, did anyone tell you that the Vostro has a 21 guarantee satisfaction period? (on dell site it says 30 days, but just to be safe I am telling you the lesser days), if you don't like what you get, you can always return it for a full refund during the 21 days and get the 1510.

I see the edits, you are getting a better screen resolution at a lower cost as well. 1440 x 900 vs. 1280 x 800. I think it is pretty obvious, which one I am rooting for.

I would choose the first option with the better screen and graphics card.

But I really think you should buy my vostro that I'm going to be listing on the forum ;) It trumps any of those in terms of specs and it's less than two months old and under full warranty until March 2010.

Don't buy any of them! They're all extremely overpriced! I got the system in my signature for $1100 6 months ago, which means that it's probably around $899 now on sale... Buy a Vostro 1510 if you're not going to game.

There was a miscalculation, here are the actual values:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
15.4 in Wide Screen XGA LCD Display w/TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
    US$849

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    15.4 in Wide Screen XGA+LCD Display w/TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    US$824

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    15.4 in Wide Screen XGA+LCD Display w/TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
    US$799

    Resolved.

    My concerns were:

The higher resolution (which Im getting), Ive read that there been some problems with the glossy 1280x800, the 1440x900 works fine.

The X3100 vs the 8400 (I didnt know if the 3100 would work with Vista, I wont do any gaming. Some Photoshop or Illustrator, and I guess the X3100, will work good.

Go with this one. It's only $25 more than the one you are looking at, and it gives you more options.

I'd go with that all the way. not sure why people recommend higher systems for more money when they arent needed.

the X3100 is more than enough for just Vista~ I have Nvidia 6100 and it runs vista fine (the X3100 is more powerful) 2GB is the max ull need for XP. You can always get the RAM later if u want to upgrade to vista -- its pretty cheap. The only good upgrade that I'd recommend is 1.6ghz -> 2.0ghz

BUT in general I think this is a bad deal. I just purchased a vostro 1500 (in canada) with the same specs as above except for 8600M GT ($200+ dollars) for same price.
