I thought it would be nice to know if it's more likely to get a 2.2Ghz M1330 with whine than a 2.0Ghz M1330 with whine since real world speed is really similar and if there is some kind of co-relation (I know there shouldn't be, but always good to check).. I'd rather have a non-whiny slightly slower than a whiny machine..

Anyway.. this is driven by the fact that the T7250 I received had no whine and the T7500 had the most annoying whine imaginable.

Please vote per your own experience only (not based on how it should be, etc) :)

I have had a 7250 and 7500 both with cpu whine and if i'm honest the 7250 was slightly worse (returned both for refunds). I'm just gonna wait for penryn now to order a dell, they have promised me a discount for all the trouble i've been through :D

Hmm looks like the T7500 is definitely more whiney since the number of orders for T7500 or higher is probably much less too...

Anyone else think we should stay away from the T7500 for now to improve chances of having no whine?

Hmm that's interesting.. Penryn refresh for the M1330 might be a while though... Just as a datapoint my T7250 was pretty near perfect..

My t7500 on the other hand whines like crazy and had a 100 different build issues...

You do have a chance of getting a good machine if you keep trying I guess.. that's what I'm hopinh as I have a T7500 coming in... hopefully this week..

I just received my 1330 today with the T7500. Build quality is excellent and no whine.

    Thanks.. that's nice..
I'm still waiting for my second 2.2ghz...

Looks like the >2ghz still has more occurrences of whine..

Considering processor speeds lower than 2.2ghz are majority of orders that's a significant statistic i think...

I had a whiny M1210, compared to that the new M1330 has no whine. Unless I bring my ear very close to (almost pressed against) the right side of the palm rest. Then I can hear a very faint high pitched whine, but not sure whether it is coming from the processor or the HDD. Certainly not audible from a normal working distance.

I think this poll just shows more people using the T7500 rather than the T7250.

I don't suppose it's the CPU that is making the whine noise.

Good idea, but I think you need to restructure the poll: it's not going to give you any information apart from the relative numbers of different CPUs that people have.

What we need is a poll that has the binary option, whine/no whine for *each* CPU type. Then you can start making some inferences as to probabilities.
