My Arctic White M1530 just arrived, are there any pictures of specific things people want?
-
Just take some over view pictures maybe? any would be good, im intrested in seeing what it looks like
. Do you like the overall look of it? if you could change it to black or red, would you?
-
Black FTW!!!
-
Oh, no -- Crimson Red all the way, baby!!
-
Here are few pics, will take some more after I have done a clean out of the bloatware.

In New Zealand you can only get black or white, and I wanted something different. The white actually looks really awesome, much better than I thought. -
Good color for the 15 incher I think... Nice!
-
I ordered the white one aswell
I'm from Auckland myself, also bought a white logitech bluetooth mouse which will suite it
Mine's supposedly coming on the 18th of December. It came down from the 1st of January after a few days.
-
I got the black one...the white looks too cheap and amateurish for me, no offense meant. My shipments unfortunately getting delivered the 28th, and it will take another week to get to where I live from where I got it shipped.
-
What day did you order? I ordered 30/11, the EDD was 27/12 then 1/1, I called up and they said it would be shipped the next day (a week ago). Give it a try, at worst the EDD will be the same as now
-
is that a gloss finish?
-
The white looks very professional, more so than i thought it would be. I like it.
-
Yep, nice one as well, like the paintjob on a car.
-
Very nice... I kinda wish they either kept the entire base black, or silver(not half black, half silver)
Anyway, how's your hard drive sound? Is it audible over normal use? -
It is doing a defrag now, and is just audible (nearly silent). It's a Samsung 320GB, btw.
-
awe, i was wonderin why it costs $25 more for a color change. so did the guy on the phone. lol. my 1530 has teh black flat finish. which i like. but i had no idea they painted it.
-
I ordered on the 5th of December. I'll give them a ring
On my order status it says it hasn't arrived in New Zealand yet...
Did you get the Intel Turbo Memory?
I got the 320GB hard drive too. Do you feel it is slowing down the system at all? How is the hard drive with games? -
No, I didn't get the turbo memory, couldn't justify the $63.
The 320GB seems to be faster than the 80GB 7200RPM I have in my M1210, which will be thanks to the density. I would say that the 200GB 7200RPM would've been faster, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. The vista score is 5.2, so it's the same as my desktops drive, smells a little fishy but that's what is says.
If your order has shipped from the factory but hasn't made it into the country yet it should be about a week, and once it's in the country it takes 1-2 days.
-
That's quite an impressive score. My desktop SATAII 7200RPM 320GB is rated 5.6, 5.2 is not a bad score at all!
Glad I got one.
I got Turbo Memory because it's like an extra GB of RAM so to speak. Decreases boot times drastically and decreases power usage by 5-10%. Meh whatever, I saved money on the T7700 as they were offering a free upgrade to it so I just got the Turbo Memory and 9-Cell as well
Played any games on it at all yet? -
Sadly not, it is next on my to do list. Now if only I had enough of my cap left to download the crysis demo...
I will install 3d mark and a couple of games then report back on how well they run.
Reporting back. So far I have run FEAR and GTA: San Andreas. FEAR, running almost maxed out at 1280x800 was playable (about 40-50fps). GTA was completely maxed out at 1280x800 and was in the 60-80fps range. This thing beats the hell out of my OC'd 7600GT. 3d mark score on its way... -
Cheers for the info. Being from NZ and interested it's good to hear about shipments coming to NZ. I'm particularly interested in your hdd info, I too am deciding between the 200gb 7200 or the 320gb 5400...your info suggests going for the extra space will sacrifice little speed, which is nice. Also, good to hear about the noise.
How is your screen? And what brand dvd drive have you got? I NEED it to be able to be made region free. -
I'm just a hardcore crap collector
, so space won over performance, but if 200GB is enough for you, definitely go with the 7200RPM.
The screen is waaayy better than I was expecting, considering all the issues other 15" dells are having, it is clear, has a decent viewing angle and has minimal light leakage (you would almost think it's an HP with a screen this good). It is a CPT141F, which isn't supposed to be very good, but it is
.
The DVD drive is a TEAC DVW28SLC, it's pretty quiet for a slot load.
edit: omg, I forgot, the 3D Mark06 score is 4345, which is pretty frickin awesome seeing as I got the T7250 and CPU is supposed to make a difference. 169.09 video drivers. -
Hmmm, the info suggests that you also need to pay $50 extra for the 200GB
Choose wisely.
Also got me this sexy bluetooth mouse to go with my white M1530.
It came in a big box today with a bag, my mum tells me the laptop is here. I was all excited
-
What details does system info give you about your network lan adaptor? Some ppl are saying gigabit, others only 100mb....?
Also, did you get that thin bag like the USA ppl did, with the weak magnetic lock? -
Will check the LAN in the morning, Yes, I got the sleeve/case thing. The lock isnt too bad, but not strong either.
@visionz, damn that's a nice mouse, how much was it? -
People are selling them on trade me for $80+.
I got mine from Elive ( http://elive.co.nz/view_product.php?product=sy0927&search=v470&search_category=) for $60.80.
Is there anything I should note regarding the battery? Being my first laptop, do I need to drain it fully and recharge fully? When yours came did you charge it fully before turning it on? -
It is a good idea to calibrate the battery by running it flat from full and then charging it all the way up again. Both of my Dells came fully charged, but some people say it isn't always the case. Anyhow, you can turn it on as soon as you get it no matter how charged it is.
If you can't be bothered calibrating it straight away, it is not an issue. -
Hmm, how often will I have to do it to maintain a good battery?
Also, did you reformat to get rid of 'bloatware'? -
You are supposed to calibrate the battery once every 30 charges, and it is just to keep the battery metre accurate, I don't think it actually affects wear.
I did reformat to get rid of the bloatware, though there wasn't very much, I like to kill the recovery and MediaDirect partitions so I can use the space in windows. It was a little more painful than my older M1210, as the M1210 is old enough that most of the drivers are built into windows. I really recommend downloading the drivers rather than getting them off the disc as lots on the disc were out of date. And get video drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ as the later versions of drivers are much, much better than the old ones dell has. -
The screen is good because it is 1280 x 800. Like I said in another thread, the screen resolution is a deal killer. For a 15 inch, Dell should offer at least 1440 x 900 or even the 1680 x 1050. However, because of all the high res. screen issue, I believe that is the reason Dell is not offering higher res. screen.
-
How did you select TurboMemory? Could you post the URL?
I don't see TurboMemory as an option on the USA, Canada or New Zealand websites. -
I chose the white too, because I love the look of apple products so I was hoping it would be similarly sleek - looking good from those pics!
Are there any online guides or threads with tips on what you can do with your laptop when you first get it? Such as reformatting to get rid of bloatware and reinstalling drivers and such? Do you risk losing or distorting any of the laptop's features? -
Sweet, thanks
It was on the New Zealand website, and now... it's gone from there as well
-
I think there is a guide for the M1330, basically the same thing, so it should be helpful.
-
Any idea where that's at?
-
love the white good choice .. i actually miss the dell lol.. i just wish they offered a more powerful gpu in these and id be all over one
-
I don't see how this is a deal breaker. I've been programming and gaming on a 19" at 1280x1024 for years now and it's no different. I think going from a 1280 x1024 on a 19" to my 14" 1440x900 is no difference. I still configure my windows the same way, I can actually hold MORE text on the 19". I personally think people play up the resolution more so than it needs to be. Heck, I even drop the resolution to 1280x800 to play Battlefield 2 on my laptop.
That is a sexy mouse though man. I got the Dell bluetooth travel mouse myself. I love it. And good to see the 1530's keyboard isn't any different from the Inspirons. It's a good keyboard is sturdy. -

Man white would of been pimp, get a silver APPLE logo and you got a lawsuit on your hands!!
Keeping it clean tho would be tuff. I like the red it doesnt show fingerprints or smudges. -
What do you mean? The 8600M GT GDDR3 is the most powerful GPU in a 15.4" laptop (from what I've seen).
-
I find that the black surfaces on dells are hellish to keep clean, the white doesn't show fingerprints much at all.
-
Sorry to ask again tumnasgt, what was the lan speeds? 100 or gigabit?
-
The LAN is gigabit, which is funny because Dell state that it is only 100mb.
-
hey i m in trouble now ... shld i take white or black
Does white give an apple feel ... coz i really like macbook ... -
The MacBook has quite a different white, as it is matte. Though IMO, the white looks a lot better and won't show fingerprints as much. The white finish is amazing, like a car paint job, whereas the blacks matte finish is nothing special.
-
hey, just wondering what you think of the glossy screen? thinking of buying a 1530 myself, but a bit worried that the glossiness is going to be really annoying.
-
Dude, in these pics, the white XPS M1530 seriously looks like a MacBook Pro.
-
If youre daring, could you remove the display and take a picture of the antennas behind the screen itself? If you would that could help me figure out my own antenna quandaries ...
-
Now being on my fourth laptop with a glossy screen, I find them much nicer than matte screens. Colors just look dull on most matte screens compared to glossy ones.
Sorry, I'd rather not take it apart, I think the Dell support site has service manuals that have a picture of the antennas.
White M1530 arrived. pics?
