Who has been successful to get compensation for 8600M GT?
Only vote if you have tried.
-
grow some balls and call them
these stupid threads are a waste bandwidth. -
I have been successful, but I didn't vote...because I have been successful to get compensation for the 8400GS - because I got an 1420
-
-
dell listed gddr3 ram but it only ahs gddr2 ram
-
-
just got off the phone with a sales rep. first i called sales who forwarded me to tech support who put in a note about GDDR2/3 and the mistake and asked for me to get compensation...then fwded me to sales again, who said I will receive $100 credit once my order ships. =).
-
I'm going to do the same.
EDIT: On the phone with DELL right now, Customer Care asking manager for permission to credit my acct. Waiting, will post and vote once I get results. -
haha i am super psyched about what i paid for what im getting. can't wait to get my hands on my 1520..
-
They are refusing to give me the $100, but I'm refusing to stop trying. THey hung up on me once already... let's see how this goes.
EDIT: got a 2nd customer care guy on the line, he immediately agreed to put the $100 on my acct once it ships.
Funny thing about how ppl complain about Indian tech support--the only guy that hung up on me was the American sales rep.
If you want your $100 (hey that's a big deal to me, I'm not rich! lol) you have to UBER-aggressive, ***REFUSE*** to give up, have them transfer you to somewhere else if they won't give it to you, and have those ppl transfer you back if they won't help you either. I went through ~6 ppl before I got my money back. GO INTO THE CALL READY TO SQUEEZE EVERY LAST DROP OUT OF DELL'S THROAT!!! AAAAAH! -
congrats! it took me an hour and a half..lol.
-
On the phone right now and talking to supervisor. They offered Dell $100 Coupon and I am pushing for $100 credit right now.
-
^Dude absolutely refuse. Tell them this incident made you scared to buy another DELL computer and it's unfair to force you to do business with them again just so you can get compensated for *THEIR MISTAKE!*
-
Their going to call me when I receive my laptop. I am going to have to have a conference call with him and the tech support to go through this.
-
Aww man DMAK!
You gotta PUSH for it and ask to talk to others, they'll give in eventually. You may be only 0.000001% of their revenue, but that's to your advantage too--because dropping $100 on you is no big deal for DELL either.
If I were you, I would try again, just to be ASSURED that they will give me what I wanted, or $100 back. NO customer care rep. agreed to provide me with a promise in writing that I would get what I ordered. What is that BS? -
If you guys were honestly mislead and thought you bought it with DDR3 then maybe you should get a credit, but those people harassing customer support to get a credit that is not even owed to are lame. If there was a better laptop for the price you would have bought it already, I'm sure Dell has a very small profit margin on hardware and thinking $100 won't hurt them, yes it will over time.
-
I am going to get $100 credit as soon as I get invoiced/ get my laptop. They just want to be sure I have the problem. They will be checking with tech support.
-
can someone post a link to dells website where it shows the wrong memory bandwidth ?
-
i believe they've fixed it now, auror.
-
Nope it's still there.

The 22.4GB/s memory bandwidth is the key. -

copied and pasted i'm too lazy to format it right, but you can see the numbers right there. We were led to believe we would be receiving a card that had 22.4Gb/s of memory bandwidth and ended up receiving one with 12.2 I believe the number is. That is half the bandwidth meaning a considerably lower performing card. I am just waiting for my laptop to come before I try to get my credit. -
Out of curiosity, are there any canadians who got the compensation?
-
They only fixed it on the British DELL website.
And YES WE WERE MISLED. I looked up the 8600M GT's specs before I bought the laptop, since I had a brand new HP dv6500t already at that point. I saw how much better it was than my 8400M GS, and RETURNED MY HP for the Dell.
Liquidx: they tried to give me the same BS too, about how I need to wait until I get it and it exhibits a problem. *REFUSE*! You are the customer, you paid them over a $1000 of your hard-earned money, you better get exactly what you want, just demand they give you a written confirmation or promise--they won't--they'll say "We don't have the tools to do that I'm sorry, I'm being honest...", and then ask them to transfer you to sales/tech and try the pitch again. KEEP getting transferred until you get it--don't call back a separate time, that'll make it look like you're playing a game of craps, even if you really are. Good luck, I'm still not done with DELL, going back for more. -

I would put money on it that dell knows about this website and how people are trying to get free stuff out of them just for the sake of getting free stuff.
-
I got $100 compensation but honestly i would rather have the gddr3 ram for that $100. I'm not gettin free stuff for the sake of it, I'm sure anyone that got the 8600m gt card wanted it for some sort of gaming reason. The differenace in ram will lead to a big difference in performance down the road. The least that Dell could do is compensate their consumers for their mistake.
-
And the thing is, they'll do it so they can stay on the good side of the Laptopreview.com gods... if they start getting worse bad rap... they won't notice because thousands of people wouldn't care so thus they don't care and i don't know where I'm going with this.... good night guys

I just haven't tried yet glow, in the last week I have received a free remote that I will most likely end up battling to get the bluetooth one since no one knows how to get the other, as well as I got a free messenger bag. I want to space out what I am asking for here...
Besides everyone isn't getting it until afterwards, and with all the trouble I have had getting a notebook, I am certain my case worker won't give me too much flak when I email her and say how unhappy I am about the GPU not being as spec'd. So once I get a for sure yes on the messenger bag I asked her for, and a decision on the remote ( i got one for free, just the wrong one), I will then push for the $100 back.
I bought this laptop to last me 4-5 years (basically through college). I paid the extra $100 for the 8600 thinking it was far superior to the 8400, considering the results i have seen, I certainly don't think it is worth $100, $10 maybe, but not $100, so if they will give me at least $90 back, I will be happy. -

ok, DMAK, you got me confused, what do you mean by 10 letters? Compensate?
-
Oh, because u need 10 letters to post. Same was only 4, so yeah..
-
oh...lol, I thought you meant compensate since that is 10 letters...

Straight out of the forum rules :
-
yeah, just got my 100$ refund, I've already had the free messenger bag as that I made that clear that would make me buy the laptop. so the rep told me to order and that she will send it for free. And I've got the IR remote since it goes away free on the dell.ca website when you order. Happy customer
-
So what bag did they end up sending you MrBrown? or did you get to pick?
-
I got to pick, I choose the messenger one, with the color according to the lappy of course
-
well they didn't have any listed with the laptops as you are ordering them that are color coded to the yellow color, so I did a search around in their accessories dept and found this one:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A1125080
She said she would try to send that one, so we will see.... -
did'nt get a mice tought, I told my rep that shou could drop one in the bag if she wanted me to be very very happy. lol
didn't work. gotta go pick up the bag tomorow, the delivery came thursday when I wasn't home. -
I guess you should be ok. it's cheaper than the messenger one, price wise.
good luck. -
Hey send us a pic when you get the bag, I want to see a real world pic of what they look like.
How much was the other bags? The only other one they had that I really liked was a Timbuktu bag for $150, I just couldn't see her sending me that. Would have been nice though... I just wish they had ones that closer matched the yellow of my laptop. That messenger bag I picked was nice, but the yellow is no where near the vibrance of my laptop. They have one bag that matches it, but its like a faux croc style, and looks more like a ladies bag. I am not carrying that around...
