Hey all... i found this thread on NBR where you can compare the speed of your computers. I thought it'd be fun to compare all the DELL laptops. Follow the instructions below. Then run the 32M Test to check how fast your computer is. We can compare our Inspirons/XPS/Latitudes/etc.
1) Download wprime from ( www.wprime.net), extract and run. (I downloaded the newest version 1.54).
2) Note the following instructions for VISTA users:
Vista - you need to manually set 2 threads under the advanced settings. Otherwise the times will be doubled.
Vista - If you get "Unexpected Error . . ." --- disable the User Account Control & any user passwords.
3) Only run the 32M test, the 1024M test is a stress test and takes a while.
4) Post a screenshot of your time!
Here's my screenshot:

There's a reason why that thread was created...to allow people to compare power with each other. No need to make another thread about it.
-
Try running Super Pi instead, which is more popular and compare your results with other systems.
-
Super pi is dead, old and very biased.
There's no point in using that nowadays with multi core cpus. -
yeah.. the wprime program is used based on multi-core cpus.. so its a good comparison.
-
it depends on which aspect you would like to compare:integer computing power or floating point number computing power. for instance my AMD 64X2 4000+ machine is 25 sec slower in 2 million super pi calculating than Intel 1.6G C2D while in wprime amd is 13 sec faster than intel.
-
wow... my desktop ht got 187s...
-
my desktop got 37s in wprime.
-
My server got 44s, though, at stock clock speeds -
hey computer nerd.... you have to go to advanced settings and set the number of threads to 2.. otherwise it only uses one of them. =)
-
Oh and my laptop got 52 seconds... not too shabby. -
How about we both get alloted a certain amount of work to do, and i show you how much faster i can complete it on my 4 yearold laptop as opposed to your state of the art machine.
-
Your processor scales down its speed for power consumption purposes. I'm guessing thats the cause of the reading you're getting.
-
On my Pentium D 3.2 Ghz Desktop at work it completed in a whooping 116.5 sec
I believe my laptop will be much faster than that

We will see how my new lappy does when it gets here tomorrow. -
Well no, it automatically found both cores and the correct clockspeed for my server. So I dunno why you'd have to specify.
-
55 seconds here =(
running itunes mite have caused it, damn apple! -
haha u gotta go to that site and see the records. CAUTION: don't forget to wear ur pampers.

my lappies not a dell but i figured i might as well post anyways
41.761 seconds with setup in sig -
for all running multiple cores.. don't forget to go to advanced settings and change the thread number to 2 (instead of 1).. otherwise i think the time doubles.
-
36.375 sec on the 1721.
27.30 sec on the desktop, E6600 @ 3.2 -
AustinM,what's the CPU for 1721?
-
Hey guys...if you're going to do the wPrime benchmarks, please keep your results in that thread so that all can see and compare.
Who's got the fastest computer.... take this challenge.
