I'm running Windows 7. My specs are in my signature. I've yet to encounter any problems.

I ran the Release Candidate build 7100 for a few weeks with no issues. Now I'm just waiting to get my pre-ordered copy.

Just installed the x64 RTM on my 14z. Runs great, but I can't get the card reader to work.

Just use all the vista drivers, like if you use win 7 64 bit, you need vista 64bit drivers.

Its mostly stable for me, but now and again right clicking on desktop, does crash the computer, and you have to press restart explorer.

You need to use the vista drivers that are for your laptop. Or get something like everest and it will tell you what hardware is you have not installed and it will tell you what that is, so you can go and find it.

I've had a couple of driver problems on my 8200 which were sorted out OK. Since it's more than seven years old that's understandable.

Works great on mine, including the fingerprint scanner which works better than it ever did under Vista or XP with the newest software from Upek.

Nothing happened to me, I have a Cherry Red Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 RTM 32bit.

When I ran the upgrade CD, it said that I should uninstall Dell Support Center? Well I did what it said, after it upgraded I reinstalled.

Working fine here. Just edited the Manufacturer details on the "System properties" window to match Dell's.

I wonder if they are correct :p, could anyone PM me a picture of their system properties, thanks.

    question about windows 7

I bought the 64-bit Home Premium Edition, to upgrade from Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition

right now I run Command & Conquer generals in XP Compatability Mode in Vista to play that game.

But I hear that Windows 7 Home Premium lacks the XP Mode

I've tried installing all of the Win Vista x64 drivers available on Dell's website (including both drivers listed under chipset), but it doesn't seem to resolve the issue. I will give everest a try tonight when I get home. Thank you.

You should be able to run MS Virtual PC or Sun's Virtual Box on top of Win 7.

    whats todds so basically

I am loosing a major feature by going from Vista 64 to windows 7 64?

Because Vista 64 has XP compatability mode
But Windows 7 does not have XP compatability mode

(well the Pro version of 7 does) but Home Premium of 7 does not

but Home Premium Vista does have XP Mode.

This is a big deal for me.

    I don't think you're losing anything. I'm running Win7 Ultimate Release Candidate.

I see, I thought you might be talking about virtualization because this is the "new" (only b/c it is built-in) feature that Microsoft is introducing in Windows 7 (but only for the Pro and Ultimate editions).

There is a difference between compatibility mode and virtualization. Win 7 Pro/Ultimate come with a pre-licensed VIRTUALIZED version of Win XP. This is something that is totally new and it is totally exclusive to Win7 Pro/Ultimate. All editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 come with this XP compatibility mode.

So yes, Win 7 Home Premium has XP compatibility mode.

    Thats very good news.

Not a huge deal but without XP Mode, I would lose 2 games thats about it.

Would be nice to try XP Mode via Virtualization on Core2dup chips, should be nice and secure.

But in the long term, 7 Home Premium will be more than fine, since it not doubt will run with less active services than 7 Pro, eating up CPU cycles and battery, less services the better.

Do you update in place ontop of Vista 64 bit or did you reformat and do a clean install.

This is very important for me to know.

Ice Cold if you have a free partition on your HDD say 30Gigs why not try dual boot this way you can test out your games etc on Win7 and still keeping Sister OS. ;)

I always perform a clean install of windows. did the same with windows 7, I just left the dell oem partition intact and formatted/repartitioned the hdd. I recommend u do the same, whats the point of installing win7 on top of the bloated vista with all the crapware pre-installed by dell.
