I ordered a brand new XPS 1530 for about $2,000. I didn't get the complimentary XPS owner kit so I called and complained to customer service. After a week of back and forth in which I was very polite, they denied to issue me the kit or any kind of credit/gift card and asked if I wanted to return the laptop for a full refund (I said yes).
So because Dell didn't send me the free kit (a $50 value), they now lose out on an entire purchase of $2,000. And you wonder why their stock is stuck on stupid.
That's good business decision! LOL. Any recos for a good 15" powerful notebook for mid-level gaming now that I'm back on the market?
Thanks!

Do you want me to move this into the What notebook should I buy section? And you can fill out the FAQ.

Look at the ASUS G50V(9700mGT), Clevo m860tu (9800mGT) and Toshiba Qoismo F55 (9700m GTS)

Don't buy the XPS M1530 or any other Dell laptop that has video cards with a G84 core (8600M GT) since they are defective. They all have heat issues (I think the high end Nvidia video cards might also have them). This is actually Nvidia's fault.
You can look at the HP Pavilion dv5t or the Sager NP2096. The HP is offering a pretty nice discount ($400). The sager doesn't look as "beautiful" on the outside as the HP, but it has great quality (at least that's what lots of people are telling me).
The HP dv5t and the Sager NP2096 both have Nvidia 9600M GT, which is a little better than a 8600M GT. I read somewhere that 9600M GT's are also defective, but I think that's a rumor.
You can also look at some Asus models, which have decent video cards (at least a 8600M GT) for $1000+.
But for $2000, you can definitely get a Sager NP8660, which is also 15.4" but has a 9800M GT and DDR3 Ram.
If you spend $2000, I would recommend a Sager NP8660. For around $1000, you can get a sager NP2096 or the HP dv5t. Look at powernotebooks.com or xoticpc.com for the sager laptops. They both have extremely high user ratings.
Also, if you fill out the FAQ, more people will be able to help you. -
What idiots...why didn't they just give you the god**** kit and finish with the argument...

Good that they didnt, now you can get a more gaming capable nb

The $400 dv5t coupon expired. There is a 200 coupon though.

It's not just Dell's G84/G86 cores that are defective. It's across the whole platform (ALL of them, Including HP/Sager/Etc).
Not to mention, there are even hints that the 9x00 series are 'defective'. -
Yeah for the cost of a $50 gift card or so they could have kept my business. Ridiculous. Not to mention they are paying for shipment back, disassembly or refurbishment, etc. I'm no economics major, but I can guarantee all that equals a loss for Dell instead of a gain. I'm sure it would make any Dell exec cringe.
Thanks for the tips on the other notebooks. I'll check out the Sager. BTW, the GeForce heat issue affects not just the 8000 series, but 9000 too? I think I idle around 65C and during 3dmark it got up to 79C or so. I would figure a heat issue would be caused when it reached 90C... -
I filled out the notebook F.A.Q. here.
