OK, so it's fast. Has a great graphics processor. Has plenty of processing power (Core duo running at 2.00ghz). 2 gigs of ram. Runs Pro/Engineer OK (I compare it to my dual 3ghz Xeon desktop system so anything that's portable seems like a dog but this one is adequate). Pretty quick with most other common office type software. Why do I hate it? It's way too freaking big. Finding a case for it that I like has been a chore that has eaten up countless hours of my time. The Dell branded case I received with it was barely adequate. The laptop barely fits in there, let alone trying to carry the AC adaptor which is the size of a brick and just as heavy, the spare battery, and a mouse (It is a sharp looking case though, just WAAAAAY too skinny). Heck, you can't even put a pen in the pen holder in the bag, the crappiest design I've ever seen for a pen holder. My job requires that I travel every other week and work remotely so I need a high powered laptop that's got enough graphics power to run 3D cad software with enough processing power to run my FEA software, so I'm stuck with it for the time being. With the dell branded M90 case I cannot fit it under a seat in an airplane which has made traveling with it a big pain in the rear. I would love it if I didn't have to travel so much with it. I wish I had my M60 back which is literally 1.5" narrower. Perhaps when/if I ever find a decent bag to carry it in I'll like it. For the time being I'll sit back and wish I still had a 15.4" standard aspect ratio laptop. Here are some pictures of it side by side with my personal M140.

SO u sold ur M60 and get the M90? U should note that it's a 17 inch, the size supposed to be BIG. If u want a better 17 inch, look for laptops that is thinner such as Asus or Sony but the power will not match that M90 though.

I have a backpack from Dell for my 9400 and the system fits there just fine + gives me SOOOOO much additional space, that I can easily carry 2x500pages books, power adaptor, water bottle and still have plenty of space left. That's with the stock Dell's stuff. I can only image what other backpacks for 17" laptops that come at a higher price give you.

As mentioned, 17" are supposed to be BIG. They are desktop replacements in "mobile" form. It took me 3 days to get used to my system, although I don't carry it around as much as you do.

How do you guys stand those huge Dell adaptors?

I have no idea why IBM can make such small ones but not Dell. Is it really that much more expensive?

Yes, and the fact I can't find a case that fits it that I like. Not a lot of options in the 17" size.

There's tonnes of options for a 17". I walked into CircuitCity and found 6 different ones and bought the shoulder strap one I liked best. Fits the laptop, power brick, mouse, ipod, Nintendo DS, cables an d adapters, plus business cards, papers, etc.

I also found several at COmpusa, never mind the zillions available online.

Not much here available in Auburn, Alabama. The Best Buy had the largest selection with two different ones. Cause it's so big I'm hesitant to buy it without being able to shove my stuff in there to insure it fits the way i want it too. The brick of a power adapter is the main culprit in screwing things up. Maybe I'll do some shopping in Atlanta when I fly back into town next week.

you can always buy a bag online...

dell gave out this back pack for free over the summer when i brought a laptop from them and its been awesome so far. i usually carry my 17 inch laptop to class along with 3-4 one subject notebooks and a 250 page workbook to class. one time i got really bored so i tried to fit a 17 inch laptop (e1705) in there along with a 15 inch (e1505) including 2 mouses, power adaptors, headphones and it worked. i wouldn't pay $80 but i'd definitely pay $30-50 for it.

http://www.directron.com/bags1.html look in here, they have some old, used Dell laptop bags there. I've seen some good ones @ good price when I was working in that warehouse of the company. I'd happy with the laptop if the company give it to me .

Too many posts to move it to the accessory forum so... You can move yourself there. I would suggest going to that forum and looking at the sticky with all the notebook bag manufacturers in it.

P.s. Don't cross post in that forum.

    I second ebags.com.

It gives you laptop pocket dimensions there so you should be able to find something that will work. I'm sure.

Bought it for my M90, and I love it. Best backpack I have ever had. Fits sooo much it's ridiculous (I'm talking both my laptops, both power bricks, couple of notebooks, mouse, and various other odds and ends such as pencils and calculator). The M90 fits like a glove; not too tight but not too loose. It's durable, well padded, and when carrying the laptop around it makes it feel like it weighs nothing. I have a review written of it that I need to send to abaxter to post, but I haven't gotten any pictures yet. As soon as I do, I'll see if I can get it posted up.

You also mention you travel every other week. I am sure during a trip you have the 20 minutes to walk into another store that may be better stocked. Added bonus you'll already have the laptop with you to test it.

I have a M70 - it is predecessor to the 15.4" M60, with a superior gpu - but much more portable than the M90. I would never think of a 17" notebook as pleasantly portable. The 15.4' is barely so...though M60/D820 is an improvement on the D810/M70 for weight - 14" or 12" is far nicer to carry around, if gpu is good enough.

Sorry to hear your about your hazzles with the M90. I have heard good things about the Brenthaven carrying cases for the m90 (See http://www.brenthaven.com/catalog-duo.html) I have not tried it myself though. I have the Dell corporate backpack which is okay, but it could do with some more padding/protection.
