 Guys u ppl are really lucky that Dell USA gives you such fabulous offers. Here in India Dell has been promoting only one offer "Free upgrade to 120gb hard disk" ...c'mon this is not done you get Free upgrade to 160gb +2gb ram+student discount+ discount coupon....we can avail none of these and even the base price is substantially higher. A week back upgrade to 2gb ram was priced around (Rs 9000 approx 230$) good now it has come down to Rs 3000 but still it is far from being free. And like i said coupon system is not in place the option is there when we are ordering but it renders any discount coupon invalid. Had expected better deal this week atleast but i see the same thing being carried on. I have heard that we can actually haggle with them over phone so anybody who has ordered in India how much discount could you get ???

PS: i am looking for a config that for now is priced at Rs 76000 (approx $ 1900) and am not posting the specs for now because people from elsewhere will surely have a laugh at this

Yeah I (I am from India) just visited dell india to compare the prices. They were hell expensive in India. May you should have a friend here to get it for you.

the problem is that Dell doesn't have a large customer base in India. add to this the fact that the production facility is in malaysia. so prices are definitely higher and there aren't discounts and offers. i have placed my order and i could barely get rs 1000 off. and even now i am not so satisfied as at the time of my order i couldn't upgrade to the 2gb ram. wish i had waited had i known the prices of the ram would be slashed.

The problem is that dell customer base is small in india. According recent article in times of india no. 1 slot is occupied by hp for little less than 50% of laptop sold in india followed by lenovo and then toshiba while dell in on 4th position(a year back it was on 3rd position) but its sale decreased this year.

I'm thinking of ordering one but the delivery time lag is scary. Don't want to end up waiting for weeks on end....so may go for the SZ49.

Maksa - what was the delivery time given to you by Dell India?

Considering that all of our technical and customer support jobs have been outsourced to India, there ought to be thousands of employee discounts there!

Nah - if the corporate buyers are still in the US then it is them who need to be influenced and the EPP applies just to people in the US.
