The D600 and the D410 are work issue laptops but I have used them extensively.
The LED screen is just leaps and bounds ahead of the pack in brightness and viewing angles, especially the other glossy screens DV2000 and 700M.
Im not going to go into depth about performance since thats all dependant on context Ill just focus on concrete items.
The following items are just better across the board:
1. LED Screen
2. HDMI output
3. Slot loading DVD Burner
4. Cool factor glowing buttons for multimedia that face in and out
5. Better low light performance camera
6. Better graphics card (beats the Geofroce 7200 go soundly in my DV2000)
DV2000
7. The hinge technology is similiar but with the M1330 you can open it with one hand
8. You dont have to pay extra for the express slot remote control
9. Lighter in weight
10. The stock (Non protruding battery) lasts much longer in the M1330
700M
7. Full size keyboard huge improvement, especially the seperate page up and down keys
8. No possible built in bluetooth
9. No camera
D410
7. Keyboard once again
8. Built in optical drive
9. No camera
D600
Too much to mention...
VAIO PCG-Z1VA
7. Keyboard buttons themselves
8. No camera
This is all just off the top of my head will update as I start using the 1330 more (only been 2 or 3 days).
If you guys have any specific requests please ask, pictures or anythign etc etc

Hi... I recently bought Dell Vostro 1400... but when I received it I didnt like the body of it. Actually now I want to buy HP dv2500t... Can you anyone tell me how much I have to pay as restocking for it as I want to return it... Also can I get it exchanged for Dell Inspiron 1420 for free...? Waiting for your reply...

I can't believe I'm saying this but right now, my 700m has a better screen than this POS no-name LED screen I got on the 1330. I dunno why, I dunno how but there it is. 1330 suffers from poor viewing angle and screen temp set too high. Yes, it's brighter and bigger but it's not enough to offset the fact that I can't view this 13.3" screen and see it uniformly lit, one or another area will be dimmer than the rest no matter what angle I'm looking at it (with brightness less than 50-60% or so). Note, that I'm not particularly happy about 700m screen, either but it beats 1330 in terms of viewing angle brightness-wise, if not color-wise, that's for sure.

Very odd, I have 2 700Ms I gave one to my father and the other one to my wife (sitting right here).
Funny thing between the 2 700Ms there is a huge difference in the screens themselves, but compared to the BETTER of my 2 700ms the 1330 is still better and not just marginally. Whites are actually WHITE.
My uniformity is not perfect in one of those black boot up screens BUT keeping it in context its better then my dell ultrasharp monitors and the other laptops.
Well the sony vaio screen is a 1400x900 4:3 screen, now that guy I must admit MAY have a more uniform black but I havent checked it recently to compare... But still the color reproduction accuracy and brightness all fall short of the 1330.
Im curious to see other peoples responses.
And there is no restocking fee at dell whoever asked that rather non pertinent question. -

It seems like some M1330's have better LED screens than others. When looking at my service tag, it reveals Transformer Metroplex, and device manager says LCD2306, but no one knows the maker of this LCD. My screen is uniformly lit. Whites are very white, blacks are black, but the viewing angles aren't that good. I still like the screen.
I guess the only thing that concerns me at this point is that tiny gap in the casing along the very top edge of the LCD housing. It's right above the webcam and runs along the edge of the notebook. The gap is very small, but if light is shining on the notebook, you can actually see inside the LCD! -
well, is your screen Chi Mei or that obscure Tranformer thing (LCD2306 in monitor properties)?

JimmyK, can you check your service tag to see if you have a "Chi Mei" display? Or you can check:
device manager > monitors > right click generic PnP monitor, properties > details tab > and under property, click hardware ID.
This would be extremely helpful, since it sounds like you have a great screen. -
It's the CMO Chi Mei display.

We just received our new M1330 - booted it up next to our 700M and the 700M screen blows this one away. Like others in this discussion, the viewing angles are not good at all and it is washed out next to the 700M.
Looks like it has one of those "obscure Tranformer thing (LCD2306)".
This is the second laptop we've received in the last month with really disappointing screens. The other was a 1420 and it seems there are four manufactures of that one - three bad and one good!
What's my option on this lousy 1330 screen? Call Dell? We really loaded the laptop up and it wasn't cheap. What really hacks us was spending an extra $300 for upgrading to the LED screen.
I am really upset about this. What's happening to Dell which we've used and loved for years and years? :-( -
Strange. My Toshiba is a pure joy.

Thanks y'all ... I'll call Dell. With my luck, they'll send one with a screen worse than this one! ACK!

Before I call them.. one more question for those of you who have a 1330. If you unplug and go to battery power, does your screen darken a LOT? (yeah, all our laptops darken some, but...). This one goes so dark, that we can hardly see anything on the screen.
-
I think that's got something to do with the power plan settings you have in vista. The screen brightness is probably set low to save battery power, but it can be adjusted by going into control panel, type change battery settings and choose change plan settings in either or all options; then you'll be able to adjust the screen brightness on battery power.
-
Is there anyway to fix this? -
In your case, the brightness might be low due to the default brightness level set. Change it in Power panel. -
This poster in the XPS M1330 lounge had the same problem, I think, but that Intel Display Power Saving Technology option doesn't appear in my Quickset. Is there another way to turn it off? -
Lordy, I"m following this discussion closely. Erika, what a pain that would be - hopefully, there's an easy solution. We buy a lot of cameras (photographers) and the quality and new "features" go downhill with those too. What is the techie world coming to?
Meanwhile, Dell is sending a replacement. Called it an "equipment failure", so we'll see if the new one has a better screen, I hope so.
While I was in chat mode, I asked if they could also send a manual in English instead of Russian or whatever ours is in. The Techie thought I was joking and I was not!
Anyway... I'll report back on laptop #2 replacement screen when it hits our doorstep (and hope you found a solution to Erika's problem. -
-
OK, Dell replaced my 1330 laptop and the new one has a slightly better screen, but still not nearly as good as my Dell 700 laptop! When I did a lookup, it says it has a "Generic PnP Monitor" whatever that means.
The only real difference we see between the new one and first one is that the whites are more white and it might have slighly better viewing angles, but nothing to rave about.
Ah well. And like Erika, when I unplug to go on battery power, the screen darkens so much we can hardly read what's on the screen.
Hmmm... what do y'all think? How do we solve this dark screen on battery thing?
Why XPS1330 is better then my 700M, D600, D410, DV2000, Vaio PCG-Z1VA,
