I just put in an order for my laptop to be sent in for repair for the headphone jack noise and the DVD burner, and checked my Dell Support account this morning and this is what I saw:
![]()
The one for $0.00 is for the shipping box to ship it back to the Dell repair center, and the $85.63 one is for a DVD burner drive, a $10.50 Roxio disc and a $10.50 PowerDVD disc (I didnt even ask for the CDs). So why on earth am I being billed for a repair part when my system has like 340 days of warranty left?
And do they expect me to install the DVD burner myself?

I don't think they charge you for those, the prices just show up.
-
Hope that's the case...

That's a good question to ask a Dell support rep rather than on a forum.
They'll have a better idea if they're actually charging you or not.

Their billing is just weird. When I ordered my 1500, I got a seperate bill for some FREE software I didn't even want:
A0954428 Free Microsoft Office Live Basics 1 $0.01
Subtotal: $0.01
Shipping and Handling: $0.00
Total: $0.01
It came on my cedit card bill, but wasn't worth my time to dispute. -
If you look at the billing information, I bet it says "Dell CS", "Customer Service", "Tech Support" or similar.

Can they fix the noise issue? If so what are they doing for it?
Why am I being charged for warranty repairs?
