Seriously...
Yeah, I agree, imo they're more bang for the buck (although someone else here said the opposite). Not exactly sure how and why. Nearly got one myself except that the max video card is only 256mb 8600 GT. -
1. they r trying to win back market share
2. they finally realise that one does not have to skin customers to make a profit
3. may be there is some fine print somewhere - when it is too good to be true, then it is really not true
cheers ... -
It's not that cheap. It's about $150 less than the competition. Probably just volume, and probably some cheaper components in certain areas.

I don't want to know and i don't care............
there is something else that the vostro is known for. being the heaviest and bulkiest notebook on the market. so maybe the motherboard and internals are designed to be efficiently mass produced rather than with tight tolerances.
In the end the only trade off i can see is bulk and weight............we are talking about less than 500gm of difference.
Also. Dell is king of direct sales and have that figued out. So im sure alot of money is saved 'smartly' with efficient procedures and minimal staff -
Minimal staff...you got that right.
-
I've never had a problem with Dell's support, I always receive prompt service. -
support and service seems fine, its is the cheap parts and design. I have my battery duct taped in so it does not fall out. Plus I have the static/high pitch noise in the headphone jack even after a MB replacement. You get what you pay for. I just hope to God I never drop it.

I guess that's the issue with Dell - When I buy I'm prepared to do battle. Got and Inspiron and it sucked. Then I got a Vostro and it's downright amazing. Even though it's Dell we're still going after the bargain systems. There are many fewer problems with Dell's higher end systems. You get what you pay for in life.
Personally I like the Vostro's look and design. It runs much cooler compared to other smaller 15.4" laptops which is very nice. -
I think DELL has streamlined all of their operations much better than others; their JIT (Just in time) BTO (Build to order) approach, web based operations and large market share all help reduce the manufacturing cost. Not to mention the cheap Chinese parts
.

They're probably not worth it in the states considering how cheap the t61p is. However, in the UK, they're the best you can find for the price, by far. A t61p here costs around 3400$, fully specced vostros are only 1400$. The asus G1s is 3000$, the IFL90 is around 2000$ etc...
-
it's because they take two months to build and recieve them, so by that time you get your vostro, that parts aren't really worth much on the market....
-
Its simple economics, i dont understand it at all
They buy in bulk so things are cheaper? They use indian tech support as factory labourers as well? I dunno.
-
Who cares why they so cheap as long as it works and we don't have to pay a fortune. -
Well are some reasons why:
1. Dell use CHEAP parts, that's why your dell laptop dies faster/easier than anyother brand of laptops.
2. Vostros are made in Malaysia using cheaper Chinese parts and probably using Volumes to the advantage.
3. Vostro is designed to target small business therefore, price must be an incentive -> lower the better.
4. Dell's always got cheaper price than other competing companies probably due to reasons listed above.
Yeah..... -
Ironically my dad's work laptop which is a Dell has lasted longer than his other laptops.
Only problem? Windows XP being buggy and crashing -
I remember the good old days when xp crashes randomly on me as well, at these XP is better now and alot better than vista. History repeats itself again. -
All blacked out, matches my ipod, cell phone, e207wfp screen etc..
Why are the Dell Vostro's SO DEAD CHEAP?
