Why are the prices so different on different parts of the site?

I'm looking to buy a D830 for school and I went to configure one in small business, one in large business, and one with the "dell unleashed" student discount site. The small business came out to around $1,200, the large business to $1,650, and the "discount" to $1,400. What's the deal with that? Is there some sort of clear advantage to one section over the other?

BTW- I made sure that the waranty was the same

There a literally three different marketing divisions at work here. So just pick whatever comes out to the lowest price (in this case small business). AFAIK, individuals cannot order from large business, but I could be wrong.

never order online. Call the sales rep up on the phone. you can get them to give you (hopefully) some sort of special discount. I got an extra 150 off of mine that i couldnt get online. work with them, and see how low it comes.

Be prepared to order online if the sales guy doesn't give you a deal though...ever since Dell hit slightly hard financial times they have been very reluctant to deal, and most of the good Dell coupons were never seen again (like $750 off stuff).

thats true, or you could always call back again and talk with a different agent. butter em up a little, you should be able to squeeze a deal out.

You may be better off getting the RAM yourself and upgrading it. I just did a quick check and going from 1GB to 2GB is $135... You can purchase 2x1GB from somewhere else for much less than that.

This is definitely something that I will do.

Does anyone know if Dell will offer any Student discount in August? Also- why don't I ever see any coupons for the Latitude series?

Just a quick question about ordering by phone; how do you gently ask for a discount? What's the best way of doing this?

    Hi,
the price difference between small and large business could be caused by the full care which can not be removed from the order on the large business site (i think).

well when they ask if you're ready to purchase today, reply "if i get the right deal"

once you work with them on all your configuration options, ask "are there any other discounts available"

finally when they give you a final price review you may choose to respond, "well, its a little higher than what i was thinking, i'd be ready to buy it if you can take $XX off" replace XX with what you're comfortable asking for.

i hope you enjoyed dell bargaining 101
