Why can't they improve notebook weak points?

For example, why can't they find another way to attach the power jack instead of solidering in onto the motherboard? A different typr of set up is needed, as they usually will work loose from the MB, and need to be repaired or replaced- An expensive fix.

Why don't they relocate the vents so they are not on the bottom of a "laptop"? Just think, if it's on your lap, chances are you are blocking vents?

    Thank you,.....marc

    Cause it costs money.

And no one wants to pay more money. So they go cheap cause customers are cheap.

Want a better laptop? Get ready to open your wallet. Just like cars. Better ones are more expensive.

We currently have an XPS1530, which appears to be a fairly decent computer, and I think the power jack is still soldered to the motherboard, which .is a weak point.

I don't see that many laptops with broken powerjacks.

I often see more laptops where people lose track of their powerbrick. Now THAT starts getting expensive.

Having owned more notebooks than I bother to count accurately (well over 30 most likely), I have never had a problem with the power jack.

Of course, being an avid reader / poster on these forums, I've seen that some people have had issues; but the number of these issues reported is so small that I guess the manufacturers have decided to leave the design in this area alone.

As surfasb mentioned, it costs money to change the design, and likely any alternative would also cost more money; which then translates into higher costs all round. That's not something most notebook manufacturers want to do, because although the profit margin is better, the volume sold is less and so in the end it works out less money in the pocket for them.
