Why did Dell drop a resolution option?

Dell initially offered a 1440 x 900 resolution on the Inspiron 1525 but not any more. Then you could still find it on the government link, and now it is gone again.

I heard some people in the US were even able to order it at the resolution. Why would Dell drop the option? Did they run out of LCD panels? Dell Australia still offers them so I assume that such an option exists (even though when I phoned Dell sales they had no clue)

Can we expect to see the option reappear in the near future?

Because it has integrated graphics only. 14** might be a little too high for that

My guess is that they have temporarily run out of stock. DELL configuration options change from time to time depending on their stocks. If they had it before, then wait a while and see if comes back or call them and ask.

I agree with phoenix. It would be wise to pull the option from the config when out of stock. This way, you don't get people calling and complaining about how long it's taking to ship their product because parts are on back order.

Dont they use the same 15.4" screens for all their Laptops? If they're out of stock, wouldn't they stop offering it for the XPS, Vostro, etc?

I'm pretty sure Phoenix has it right, it just seems crazy that no one at Dell is willing to give me any info on the subject. A simple, we ran out would go a long way in satisfying me.

I mean I know they want to sell their current stock of 1280 x 800's and so maybe they don't want to state that higher resolutions will be available later, but no one at Dell is willing to even acknowledge the existence of a 1440 x 900 option even though numerous online reviews list it.

Ok :) But I really wouldn't get a 14** resolution with an integrated graphics card...

    Am I wrong?

    GeForce 8600M GT 24798 points

I think even 1680x*** is a little too high for a dedicated g.c. but maybe I'm talking about gaming machines, haven't had pc with an integrated card

    Yes, you are totally wrong.

Well, it might be something new for you but computers can be used for many other things than gaming... :p

yeah, I am not really looking for a gaming machine (that's what I have my desktop for, I'm not an on-the-go kind of gamer)

I just wanted something simplistic, but that 1280 x 800 resolution is just a deal breaker for me. Hell, it probably looks fine for watching DVD's and such, but it just seems to me a 15.4 inch notebook should be rocking a better resolution at this point in the game.

I hear you... I thought the 1525 looked like a really nice (non-gaming) 15" laptop until they dropped the 1440x900 res option.

:err: What resolutions/3DMarks were you using there? 640x400 and 3dmark03 on the 8600M GT, 1680x1050 and 3dmark06 on the GMA 900? Sure, the 8600M GT is a much better card, but...there isn't that much of a difference between them. And that's a super-exceptionally high score for the 8600M GT and a super-exceptionally low score for the GMA 900.

Back to the original question, they probably are out of stock. They removed the 1280x800 Matte option shortly after I bought it in July, and I noticed a few weeks ago that it's back. Which also means, unfortunately, that they won't necessarily bring it back soon. I've seen delay times of up to 8 days, so they're probably more than 8 days behind at least.

What do you mean 8 days delay time Apollo? I really hope I'm not looking at the 6 month wait for a new resolution option like you mentioned.

I just wish you could get any kind of straight answer from Dell itself, though I suppose that is more than a pipe dream.
