With the announcement that the XPS range is going to become just a model in the Studio/Inspiron ranges and I am looking for a 15" laptop, and was going to wait for a Centrino 2 version of the XPS which now looks like it will not happen, so why did you choose the studio over the XPS?
Was it the cost? was it because it did not have the Nvidia 8XXX gpus?
Did any really buy it because they thought it looked better than the XPS?

    TIA

    1. Cheaper
    2. The news (or rumors) about faulty Nvidia gpus
    3. Which could be true since Nvidia's stock dropped drastically
    4. Not a hardcore gamer
    5. Newer model
    6. I liked the outside look better, which is more professional-looking for me (i got the jet black)
    7. Backlit keyboard - surprisingly useful under low-light situations
    8. It has 4 USB ports rather than 3 (not really a big deal..)
    9. Studio is a better laptop for photoshop and video encoding
    10. Cheaper, cheaper, cheaper
    11. no electric statics due to the metal sort of palm rest on XPS
    12. Cheaper

mostly it's point no. 2 that made me ultimately go for Studio 15

Mainly the price - I couldn't justify spending that much more for a similar spec, and I also preferred the look of the Studio.

I'm hoping to order mine soon. But I picked Studio 15 over XPS for a few reasons.

    1. Cheaper
    2. It comes in colors(which I love color)
    3. I like the XPS style but why spend more when I can get exactly what I want for less. Plus I can get color. lol.

I didn't hear about the Nvidia 8XXX gpus. But the Studio 15 is just better for the price, I think.

Hope this helped. Good luck! :D

    Thanks for the responses all.
I am surprised that price is an issue, maybe its only in the UK, but I have priced up a Studio 15 vs a XPS M1530, both with 2.4Ghz processors, Blu ray disc and 320Gb HD and the difference is only £30 ($60)

We don't seem to get the same discounts as you perhaps?

    LED display with high resolution.

This is currently not available on the XPS line (the high res is, but LED is not).

    LED was important to me.

Along a similar line of thought, with the Inspiron 13 having appeared do you think we could expect a 'Studio 13' to be the equivalent of the new XPS M1330?

The Inspiron 13 is just too neutered to be comparable and I'd like to think that it's done intentionally because a more potent Studio version will be outed in the future.

I'm still hesitant about ATI GPU's though because they've historically given me nothing but headaches.
