It's not really 512MB. It's 256MB shared with memory. Everest says the same thing, but it's wrong. Trust me.
-
what????????????
it says GDDR3,............
how -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
you should really bring your 2d and low power 3d clocks way down...
-
I dunno how so im guessing by your answer Stisev that your computer says the same? cause its said 512mb's Since i got it from the manufacturer Stock.. and i think your Wrong about it being Shared With memory you should Look at the Pcwizard 2008 Screenshot Again... if anybody has a Trusted(for tyour Extra Proof Obviously) source that Shows Video Card Info
-
and about my clocks My video Card never goes above 60 degress Celsius When Playing GPU Intensive Games... Still Recomend Lowering? If you do Please let me know and i will i dont want to Fry my computer
EDIT**Also Could IT Be that I have 2 8600M Gt's haha Crazy assumption heh i know, But in the second Picture it shows
GFX #1:45 Degrees
GFX #2:45 Degrees -
You would know if you had SLi 8600GT's. Trust me.
-
You have a 256 MB GDDR2 nvidia 8600M. The other are, like the poster said, shared memory.
I have an ati x1400 with 128 MB of ram in my inspiron E1505 and it still shows in programs like yours as if i had 256 MB. -

this my previous post of my 8600m gs i just wanted to show my clock speed

So Your post is About A gs, Model I have The GT Model and i have Like my sig Says 2Gb's of DDr2 Ram? so does anybody have a straight answer so we can close this topic =P
Edit: so does this mean i could Really have a 8600 GT
@dondahdah Thanks for believing me i knew people would be skeptical =) -
Let's say you do have 512 MB dedicated (doubt it). It still wouldn't mean anything since the 8600 with a 128 bit memory address bus isn't powerful enough to handle the 512 so it would give you the same performance as a 256 MB 8600

Don't believe everything those programs tell you, they're not completely accurate. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
but i have a question i would like to find out more about your computer your specs are unbelievable.

The 8600m GT in the Inspiron 1520/Vostro 1500 is (G)DDR2. It has been confirmed many times. If you want a Gddr3 8600m GT then buy the XPS M1530.
As leo_s mentioned, there is virtually no difference between 256mb and 512mb . The memory type matters more when comparing the same GPU and the architect of the GPU(Bus width/pipelines/core+memory speed) matters more when comparind different GPUS then Vram. -
So Does this Finally mean your telling me My Video Card does INDEED not Have 512mb's of Ram? Based On the Information Given? Like I said if there is any programs out there that will Give additional Proof? then let me know and i will get it Asap... As far as the games I dont have much on here now... I didn have Crysis which Played COmfortably on med-High, The witcher On High Comfortably, Need for Speed Pro Street On all FULL High settings Comfortably
I think 55-60Fps is comfortable ingame -
One thing that points to it being DDR2 is the memory clockspeed . Standard 2d , 3d performance and 3d low performance all give 500Mhz for memory which happens to be within spec for DDR2 with overclocking accounted for.
GDDR3 is 702Mhz. -
The card is not bad for performance, just don't expect too much out of it like you did and you can get the performance you quoted for the above games with the right settings. -
dude i never have had Vista On this computer

GPU-Z is your friend. Sheesh do I even have to google it for you -_-;;
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/
EDIT: we even have the same laptop and graphics card. Just slightly different specs.
Here are your GPU-Z results. You don't even have to download it anymore! Hurrah!
-
Forgotten that the XP method is different from Vista. Have you tried searching the term "System information" under Windows XP? I remember vaguely that system information could also be found under the system icon in the control panel.
-
I'm an idiot not to realise the above method works for Vista as well. -
-
-
So does this mean in Fact that o dp have 512mb? and if so should i contact nvidia? and see what they say?
-
Why do you care so much anyway, it doesn't make any difference whether you have 256 or 512 MB
-
-
I don't know how I over looked this post. I have an XPS M1530 with an 8600 GT, and it says 512, too. I was shocked. In the laptop BIOS it says 256, though. And I got typical results running 3dMark06. It's not shared memory, because my system memory has not been reduced by 256MB. I personally think it's just some kind of configuration or driver error. But I guess at some point we are going to have to take apart our machines and have a look-see.
-
Did you download GPU-Z? The system probably will show the same things as before. GPU-Z will show the real thing. Having Dell slip in a 512mb, GDDR3 card is very unlikely. They would most definitely try to make an extra buck off of it.
-
BTW as few others have suggested, run GPU-Z to make sure. As I remember BIOS also indicates the amount of dedicated VRAM, that is the most reliable reading of all.
Even if you have a 8600MGT 512mb version it wont make much of a difference unless DDR3. -
I think there is no GDDR3 512MB version of the 8600m as far as i have read, waste of expensive memory maybe?
-
I've tried 3 different versions of GPU-Z up to the latest version. They all crash on my computer.

Please don't post any referral links.
Thx
