I only tryed this for the E1705, so I dont know about other notebooks.
But for example, if you upgrade from a 1.66GHz to a 1.83GHz processor, Dell says it is $80 to upgrade. But really, when you check the price, it goes up $100. Its the same way with all the other upgrades...
The $80 9 cell also costs $100, and the 100GB HDD upgrade costs $75 (exactly 25% more then the $60 Dell says it costs to upgrade).
Have they been doing this for a while? And if they have... why?!
EDIT: I guess it doesnt do that for ALL upgrades. I checked the 7800 go and dell charges you $239 just like it says.

I haven't noticed that and I configure systems for people all the time. It might be a problem with their database. Also if there is a special deal going on and you change something that affects the deal, you will lose it.
I haven't seen this, but I don't think Dell would do something like that. -
Oh wait... I think I see whats going on.
Im pretty sure they are doing a 25% off deal right now, so the upgrade prices are 25% higher then what they are if you use a coupon.
Well thats a relief.
Hmm... I wonder why you dont get 25% off with the 7800 go though. Thats kind of stingy... -
When i check it, it only goes up by the amount it says to upgrade.
As for the 9 cell costing two different prices, it is every laptop has to have a battery, so they charge less for the 9 cell included with your laptop versus buying the extra 9 cell. -
"When i check it, it only goes up by the amount it says to upgrade."
Try putting in a coupon though... lol. Thats what I did. I put in a coupon then clicked "forget something?"
So thats why it was messed up for me.
Why does Dell charge 25% more then what they say they do...
